• Engaged in the Archive and Public Culture Research Initiative of the Department of Historical Studies at the University of Cape Town• Working on the 500 Year Archive project (FHYA), a flagship project of the APC, focusing on the period of 500 years of pre-European colonialism• Working under the Research Chair and Professor at the University, working under and alongside another Archivist and Content Manager• Collaborating with a range of other institutions around the world and maintaining relationships with external partners and organisations including different international museums, libraries, and galleries• Primarily responsible for archiving material, gathering data, conducting research and collating all the available information on a digital object into an Excel and CSV spreadsheet• Assisting with digitisation, including resizing images, format correction, and working with AtoM (Access to Memory) a metadata management site• Researching custodial history and history of collectors and donators• Currently working on a collection provided by the Kwazulu-Natal Museum, including a personal visit to the museum to acquire own background information, and created a template for the presentation of any future information• Uploading content onto the back-end of the website www.fhya.org and troubleshooting website customisations• Writing the scripts for intros and outros of individual podcasts on historical interview transcripts• Writing papers on research and the process involved for the archive community, and for publication• Training of Masters and PhD students, to help them understand the methods and processes of the archive• Retaining an excellent background knowledge of the material and the archive• Working to deadlines, and ensuring that timescales are adhered to in order to fulfil funding requirements• Succession planning, ensuring the training and preparation of new members of staff to ensure continuity
