Some days I'm scribbling, cutting, and gluing at my desk creating ideas for STEAM crafts and projects. Other days, I'm reading with a child on the floor while a caregiver looks for a job on the computer. I design book displays to engage readers and promote diversity and I wear homemade yoda ears on May the 4th. I create programs that inspire early literacy, creativity, and problem solving and, of course, we have fun. You can learn about buoyancy and the scientific method and still get to race paper boats in a tub of water). Along with providing resources and programs for children, I also assist the adult and teen population in accessing and using library resources.

I worked as part of a digital equity team to design and implement a program to address the digital divide in West Baltimore City. We lent out Wi-Fi enabled devices and provided patrons with personalized assistance in accessing library and external resources to find jobs, build workforce skills, take educational courses, etc. I worked one-on-one with every single participant and found resources and provided instruction in ways that catered to their needs and abilities.

I love being a research consultant! Every week I conduct one-on-one research consultations on various subjects with students and community members. I get to help them narrow down and solidify research topics, find research articles, and evaluate the credibility of their findings, especially in regards to popular sources. I also have been able to teach freshman writing classes important research skills including how to use library databases, Google Scholar, and how to evaluate and synthesize research. One of my favorite parts of my job is studying and writing articles/infographics in order to increase information literacy among college students.

Working as a grant writer at Kokua Consulting is both fulfilling and exciting. I am worked on grant proposals to foundations and corporations for a nonprofit food pantry in Payson, Utah. While creating a persuasive and detailed narrative was difficult, each proposal went toward helping serve the community and was a worthwhile endeavor. In order to write the grant proposals, I researched funding options and synthesized information I gathered from the organization about its financials, mission, and goals.

I love to teach and working alongside an amazing professor at Brigham Young University was a great learning experience. I helped grade and review student assignments, giving feedback on their writing and ideas. I also met with students biweekly to teach writing tips and discuss the class, any issues, their major paper. I taught a few of the classes, specifically the days that involved secondary and primary research and co-taught many of the lectures.
