Hello there!I'm a stylized character artist with a love for cartoons and animated feature films! Currently, I'm training to become a professional story and visual development artist. Previously, I was trained in a 3D background to use software packages including Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter, Nuke, and Marvelous Designer. Utilizing soft skills such as effective communication, engaging storytelling, creating SMART goals undertaking the SWOT analysis, and so on, I plan to become an adaptable asset to any production adding value to the company. My end goal? To create stories that engage the audience with the best storytelling and characters! To reach this goal, I have been taking a multitude of classes and creating personal curriculums to develop my artistic eye while learning the tools of my craft. Through networking and asking questions with professionals in the industry, I have further prepared myself to identify, prevent, and solve problems. This network includes joining online communities devoted to teaching and improving artwork, allowing opportunities to receive critiques and offer my ideas. All of this both within a team collaborating closely with art directors or working autonomously with little to no oversight. I have a dream to see my characters on screen, and I'm going to work as hard as I can to make it happen.Have you heard the story about an artist who loved creating characters? No? Here we go!One day there was a young man who enjoyed going to ordinary schools. Each school would ask him, "What do you want to do after graduation?" Well, the young man didn't quite know. He tried everything from welding and programming courses to culinary and engineering, but nothing really grabbed his heart. Art was the farthest from his mind for surely it was something he could never do. So he continued in general classes, until one day, he started an art class in his freshman year of highschool. This. Changed. Everything! The young man would draw on anything and everything, everywhere at any time coming up with all sorts of new stories. All the while he would be thinking to himself, "Pffft. Wouldn't it be funny if I kept doing this?" Several years passed as he began taking more advanced courses in painting and drawing, getting more serious and trying to learn more. Eventually, the artist came to Full Sail University with a dream to create. Working under tight deadlines with project-based learning, he did his best often working through lunches, arriving early, and working late.Have a great day and a better tomorrow!-Christopher Gurley

Working with the Full Sail Flight Crew, this position involves high-poly sculpting in ZBrush, Maya retopology, and Substance texturing a stylized storybook character with supporting props for a 3D print statue.
--Overview This position involves developing two character assets regarding ZBrush high-poly sculpting, Maya retopology, and Substance Painter texturing to be prepared for rigging and animation. This includes modeling hard surface props, clothing simulation in Marvelous Designer, Arnold lighting and rendering, Nuke compositing, and Maya rigging. Working closely with the art director, assets are evaluated during dailies, and necessary changes are made according to industry standards. This position also involves working with current students in critiquing their work, teaching new workflows, and troubleshooting software.--Breakdown1.) Stego-Soldier film asset. Completed a second pass on retopology iterating on producing more efficient edge loops and retaining a clear silhouette. Continued to build a UDIM layout for all props, clothing, and character assets while maintaining clear organization of UV sets. Imported into Substance Painter to hand paint all character assets while studying techniques to build more appealing PBR textures for the clothing regarding adding subtle detail. Rendered using Arnold inside of Maya before compositing within Nuke using a depth pass and accompanying color grading to support emission and smoke cards.2.) Oni, game asset. In reaction to Balder's Gate 3 being released, the Oni is a highly realistic character named Koharu. Banished from their homeland in the East, this mighty creature has begun marking its territory in Western Europe by taking the heads of its kings, This model involved studying realistic human anatomy and facial features and pushing them to encapsulate a sense of strength. Clothing has been sculpted in ZBrush while weaponry and hard surface assets were modeled in Maya. Retopology has also been completed. The current plan is to export the assets back into Zbrush for added tertiary detail and final adjustments before moving forward with hand-painted texturing, generating hair cards, and exporting into the Unreal Engine.
