I was responsible for a team of six Human Factors Design Engineers ranging from Graduates to Senior Design Engineers, across a number of programs on the LMUKA site. I worked with the Engineering Leadership Team to ensure Human Factors principles and processes are applied across all programs at LMUKA. This included the development of HF requirements and providing long term HF assurance from start to finish using a range of development methodologies, guidelines and standards. These included chairing Human Factors Working Groups and developing low and high fidelity physical Mock-Ups and System Integration Labs (SILs) which enabled the HF Team to carry out detailed analysis workshops with the end users and the customer.I ensured the incorporation of HF principles and requirements on all programs and the collaboration with other program design engineers to establish a full systems design approach and ensure a full User Centered Design (UCD) approach.I was responsible for creating and owning a Human Factors schedule for each program across LMUKA. This allowed me to provide each program with the correct resource level within agreed timescales. -

I took on the responsibility for the HCI requirements which were stored within a DOORS database and I worked closely with the software engineers to ensure a fully compliant system was developed in line with Def Stan 23-09 and the overall System Requirements set by the customer.I also took on the role of the Sub-Contract Management Team (SMT) Engineer for the one of the Line Replacement Units (LRUs) within the AFV which helped broaden my engineering skill set, enabling me to ensure their usability and integration into the vehicle’s System Architecture. -

On both projects I worked within the Systems Engineering team and worked very closely with the Physical Architecture team and the Fightability leads to ensure a full UCD approach was followed. I produced regular assessments of the vehicle designs using Pro Manikin, CREO and JACK. I developed a system Task Analysis for both programs and used that to structure and carry out numerous user workshops with the customer and end users at both internal and external sites.For each design review and milestone on the programs I worked with the HF lead to create HF documents including the Human Factors Fightability Acceptance Report (HFFAR), Human Factors Integration Plan (HFIP) and updates to Subsystem Requirements Documents (SSRDs) by owning the HF transversal requirements on the projects.I worked as a deputy to the HF lead throughout my 3 years in this role and would regularly attend meetings and design reviews in their place. We would meet regularly to ensure HF was being correctly and accurately integrated into the system design by ensuring compliance to the customer requirements. -

This was a system that prevented a vehicle from exceeding the posted speed limit, and was fitted to a fleet of twenty cars, one motorcycle and one truck. My responsibilities were to aid in the everyday running of the ISA car project, and to develop and test an ISA system for a motorcycle and a truck. My role in the ISA car trials involved liaising with trial participants, data collection and analysis, computer software development as well as future design improvements. My participation in producing the ISA system for the motorcycle and truck involved researching into and designing a safe working ISA system. Taking into account the user requirements and the system’s functionality and carrying out a series of field trials with real users and collecting and the analysis of raw data. At several times during my placement I was left in charge of the whole project due to staff absences. -
