General Administrative Responsibilities • Serve as the Museum’s chief executive officer, reporting to the Board of Trustees, and accepting responsibility for the overall performance of the Museum. • Work closely and cooperatively with the Board to formulate plans, policies, and long-range strategies for implementation by staff and volunteers who assist with the museum’s activities and programs.• Select, train, and evaluate the performance of management staff. Programs, Events and Exhibits• Provide guidance and vision for the museum’s programs and exhibitions.• Work with the curator and other key staff in developing long-range priorities for exhibits.• Manage and support programs and exhibitions where needed with an emphasis on building collaboration.Development and Fundraising• Oversee and manage in coordination with Development Director a comprehensive development plan that includes donor cultivation, annual appeal, planned giving, grants, and major gifts. • Supervise and assist key staff and committees on fundraising events including FallBall, Privateer’s Bash, and RiverFare.Current Projects• Developing and managing a Capital Campaign (More public information to follow)• Planning and implementing with key staff and community organizations programs, including: Annual Essex Shad Bake, Evenings at the Lay House, Theater Along the River, and Haunted River.• Organizing with Curator two new traveling exhibits: Invaders: They Come by Air, Land and Water (an invasive species exhibit), and, Myths and Legends of the Connecticut River Valley.

Capital Campaign• Developed and completed $1.2 million capital campaign (raised 20% more than goal)• Campaign achievements: Restored the museum’s National Landmark building, created new interpretive plan, renovated the Visitor Reception Center and main gallery, developed a schoolhouse theater and orientation film, installed interactive family center, and increased endowment 45%Programs, Events and Exhibitions• Oversaw the staff coordination for development, marketing, implementation and ongoing evaluation of all museum programs• Developed and implemented changing exhibits with key staff and advisors, including the award-winning exhibit Bristow: Putting the Pieces of an African-American Life Together• Implemented programs to build public awareness, expand the museum’s visitor base, and increase earned income, these programs included: Webster’s War of the Words, Tavern Nights, and West Hartford Hauntings • Implemented Capacity Building Initiatives, made possible through a $225,000 grant from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and other matching sources that included a groundbreaking iPad tour to expand the museum’s public hours, better serve visitors with disabilities, and accommodate multiple languages.Development and Fundraising • Managed comprehensive development program, including annual giving, capital, planned and deferred giving, and a strategy to enlarge the membership and network of potential donors (increased membership 40%)• Functioned as the lead grant writer including researching, identifying, and making foundation connectionsAdministrative Responsibilities• Hired, trained, managed, and evaluated 18 salaried full- and part-time staff; worked closely with program staff in managing volunteer corps• Responsible for the overall fiscal management of the museum including developing annual budgets in tandem with the Finance Committee; reporting on monthly progress; and working closely with the museum’s treasurer, bookkeeper and auditor

• Oversaw museum education programs, staff and division budget of approximately $500,000• Managed Inspiration Station, a family art-based activity area; the Children’s Museum; and the Discovery Barn for youth and adult exploratory learning • Created, organized and taught Maritime Adventure, a grant funded multi-week literacy program structured for at-risk middle school students• Directed the Summer Internship Program in Museum Studies• Organized teacher workshops and the Museum’s Connecticut Educator’s Day• Performed many of the job functions of Supervisor
