I began working pretty young, at age 15 doing side-work and under-the-table jobs for family friends and neighbors. My parents said it would develop positive habits that will carry over into my professional adult life. I earned my first official job in December of 2019, working as a cashier at a local grocery store in Richboro, PA by the name of Tanners Brothers Dairy. Here, I learned what hard, long work hours were like, and how to manage tasks in a quick, and effective manner. I decided I eventually wanted to move up in the Retail/Grocery business, and set my sights on working at a higher-tier grocery store. I landed a position at GIANT/Martin's Food Stores in July of 2021. I began, similarly to Tanners, as a cashier. However, I quickly was moved up the chain of command, mostly in part to my consistent work ethic and attention to detail that managers and "higher-ups" are on the lookout for. I was promoted to a Front End Supervisor, or "checkout coach" shortly thereafter. This was the first position of authority I had been in up to this point, so I wanted to make sure I did my job correctly, and thoroughly. In this position, my responsibilities include being a leader for the cashiers, showing them how to develop an effective method of checkout, the do's and don'ts of the position and what to do if they encounter a problem. It also involves directly corresponding with the manager(s) on duty for that day, making sure we are monitoring for theft, keeping things in check for audit, etc. I deal with all transactions that go on within the store, cash, debit/credit, EBT, WIC, Food Stamps, OTC, and other forms of payment. I oversee that all cash drawers are even and balanced, with no discrepancies. I work alongside the bank, with cash pickups and deliveries once or twice a week. There are many other niche or otherwise one-off responsibilities that that I have as well. I am very happy at my current place of work, however, I am looking for a career change. I discovered the University of Pennsylvania's Cybersecurity bootcamp in the winter of 2022, and began my cohort in March 2023. Throughout the course, I was mentally and technically challenged and pushed to my limits, having many moments of reconsideration along the way. I pushed through to the end of the course in August, and received my certificate of completion from the bootcamp. I currently still work for GIANT, but I want to get my "foot-in-the-door" in the field of cybersecurity.
