I lead a research group focused on the intersection of neurorehabilitation, technology, and data. In a blended clinical research environment, we develop and evaluate novel technologies that address clinical needs in co-creation processes. We use machine learning and artificial intelligence approaches to identify and extract meaningful data patterns, which we use to create new knowledge and also feed back into the clinical ecosystem. Our technology platforms are designed with the whole continuum of care in mind ranging from clinical use to tele-rehabilitation settings. We are strong believers in open science, and strive to provide as much access to our research work, algorithm suites, and data platforms as possible. I lecture at multiple universities on focus topics of the lab and lead our own educational program at master level.I strive to bring innovation into practice for the field of neurorehabilitation, by introducing new tools to track & improve treatment and by creating educational modules that promote a perspective shift in the workforce.

Scientific Manager And Young PiStimuloop Sep 2022 - PresentI manage a cross-institutional, inter-disciplinary research team of 15 researchers on a high-risk/high-return project for precision rehabilitation. In this project, researchers from ETH Zürich, UZH, the Children's Hospital Zurich, and Lake Lucerne Institute work together to bring the vision of precise rehabilitation interventions, tailored to each individual, into clinical practice. StimuLOOP is generously funded by The LOOP Zurich Medical Center and the Von Tobel foundation. -

Postdoctoral ResearcherUniversitätsklinik Balgrist Apr 2016 - May 2019Zürich, Zürich, ChResponsible for developing a research strategy to improve functional assessment of gait rehabilitation for spinal cord injury patients during locomotor rehabilitation. This includes the identification of surrogate biomarkers that enable sensitive tracking of locomotor function. Furthermore, the real-time capabilities of the GRAIL system are used to provide feedback on movement quality via visual, haptic, and acoustic channels and induce triggered perturbations, offering a window on the adaptive capacity of the patients. -
Postdoctoral ResearcherUniversitätsklinik Balgrist 2016 - 2018Zürich, Zürich, ChTogether with Professor Georg Rauter (Uni Basel), I worked on modelling and optimising human-robot interaction for a body-weight support system that was subsequently commercialised (https://reha-stim.com/the-float_2/). I used high definition motion capture and wearable body sensor networks to understand how human-robot interaction during overground walking impacted walking and stability in healthy and patient populations. -
Postdoctoral Researcher In Motion AnalysisUniversitätsklinik Balgrist Apr 2014 - 2016Zürich, Zürich, ChDeveloping gait analysis tools to sensitively and specifically detect structure-function relationships in different neurological injury populations and improve on diagnosis and tracking of gait rehabilitation progress. My team and I performed large scale data collections of high dimensional and multi-modal movement data from different neurological populations. Subsequent analysis using machine learning approaches revealed functional clusters that could be differentiated algorithmically. The results are published in various high ranking scientific journals and were also featured internationally on TV in a GLOBO report at prime time. -
Research App Developer (Ios, Android)Université Côte D'Azur Sep 2013 - Dec 2013Nice Sophia Antipolis Cannes, Côte D’Azur, FrCreated and tested mobile applications for Android and iOS for research projects. The apps monitored participants' adherence to a training regime and experiment program. Additionally, they provided daily reminders and questionnaires and uploaded all data to a cloud database for subsequent analysis. The results were subsequently published in the Health Psychology Journal and featured in popular science magazines around the world. -
Parttime LecturerUniversity Of Sydney 2010 - 2012The University Of Sydney, New South Wales, AuTaught undergraduate courses and workshops in biomechanics, exercise physiology, and exercise assessment tools. -
Student Research AssistantDeutsche Sporthochschule Köln 2007 - 2009Köln, Nordrhein-Westfalen, DeSupported in various research projects concerning the remodeling of muscle architecture and tendon tissue properties in vivo under mechanical stress. Mechanical tissue properties were assessed using a combination of ultrasound, torque measurements and marker-based movement analysis, while the effect on movement efficiency was measured via spirometry.
