DirectorMill Architects Limited May 2004 - PresentDalmeny, Edinburgh, United KingdomIn 2004, I established MILL Architects after a varied career, working in private practice with a number of Edinburgh-based architectural firms. The company name comes from where I live, a converted Horse Mill, on a farm outside Edinburgh.I have always been interested in rural and industrial buildings, in particular finding new uses for these great heritage properties. I enjoy working with traditional materials and since I also make furniture, I am particularly keen on timber. It is a beautiful and sustainable material, which can be used in so many building types. The interface between traditional and modern structures creates an exciting architecture, which is both contemporary and appropriate to its setting.I consider myself to be a hands-on architect and I particularly enjoy detailed design. I have converted two traditional farm buildings to residential use and can see the build process from the perspective of the client, user and builder. Understanding the roles of everyone involved in a project is key to the success of every development.A large part of my job is managing the growth of the practice, alongside my business partner Richard Webb. This has led to us developing a successful conservation arm, which fits in very well with our strong rural focus.Along with our residential, commercial and conservation work, MILL has recently completed the conversions of:- an historic farm steading into self-catering holiday accommodation- shed buildings into a play barn - livestock sheds into a dedicated wedding and events venueThroughout my career I have worked on a wide variety of project types across most development sectors. I bring this breadth of knowledge to my everyday work at MILL.To find out how we can help you realise your property dreams; contact us now at:Office: 0131 629 1466Email: hello@millarchitects.co.uk Web: www.millarchitects.co.uk -
