The term "Education Management" suggests educational administration to me, which is something that I have never done—nor wished to do. However, I have been heavily involved in education all of my life, both as a student (a "life-long learner"), and as a teacher. From 1982 to 1985, I was the orchestra teacher at Hollenbeck Junior High School in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles Unified School District. I taught beginning instruments in Pasadena Unified from 1985 to 1987. At that time, I moved into elementary education, teaching the fifth grade from 1987 to 1997. In 1997, I joined the Burbank Unified School District (which I attended, K-12, as a child), teachinng variously second, third, fourth, and fifth grades, and, for three and one half years, reviving an after-school Beginning Strings program (teaching violin, viola, cello, and bass) at Bret Harte Elementary School. In 2007, I left Burbank Unified, having moved to Camarillo a year earlier, and wishing to devote myself to a Special Education credential program at Azusa Pacific University's Ventura County Campus. I began substitute teaching in March of 2008. I completed my Level 1 Education Specialist Credential (Special Education) in March of 2011. In June or July of 2016, I received my clear credential in Special Education through a program of classes run jointly by the Ventura County Office of Education, the Rio School District, and the State of California. I have continued to substitute teach, primarily in special education, often in long-term assignments. As a side line, I also play cello in the Moorpark Symphony Orchestra, the Westlake Village Symphony, the Burbank Philharmonic Orchestra, and for my church’s 11:00 AM Sunday services.
