QHSE Manager at Hunter Buildings intlMy previous employment was in the British Army. I’d been working as a workshop manager and mechanical instructor for the last 8 years, responsible for many aspects within the organisations I have been employed in, including; Mentoring engineering managers, engineering planning, technical advice, audit and control of engineering management system, ensuring personnel contribute to continuous improvement, quality control of all equipment inspections, workplace compliance Health and Safety at Work Act and setting engineering goals among others. I have implemented new initiatives and ensured that new processes have been successful and that the outputs of the workshop and the training of all workshop personnel was to the required standard. I was responsible for ensuring that my workforce (up to 60 multi-disciplined tradesmen) were trained and available to work anywhere in the world on a wide variety of equipment; for the allocation of manpower and resources, ensuring that all planned and unplanned maintenance was carried out in line with priorities. Throughout my time in management I have continued to return to the shop floor to keep up to date with new equipment, identify areas for improvement and to engage with the workforce to better understand their wants and needs. This has enabled me to provide more balanced feedback to both the workforce during appraisals and to the organisation when suggesting improvements.During my time in the Army, I have needed to react quickly to numerous changing situations that have required careful and effective planning and preparation in order to overcome problems, these have ranged from changing priorities and direction, to urgent requests for equipment support from dependant organisations. I have had to be resourceful in my approaches depending on the circumstance but have always managed to find a suitable solution.
