CurrentCommencing my career at Openreach with a comprehensive apprenticeship, I achieved a Diploma for Information Technology and Telecommunications Professionals at SCQF Level 5. My early focus was on mastering copper-based telecommunications systems, working extensively with advanced Gfast technology.As the industry embraced fibre technology, I successfully transitioned to the FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) service delivery team. Now serving as an Advanced Engineer, I am a vital member of the top-performing FTTP service delivery team in the UK, based in Central Scotland. Our team excels at installing FTTP systems, offering direct, high-speed connectivity for end-users on behalf of diverse communication providers.My role calls for a diverse skill set encompassing precise service detection, safe drilling, expert fibre splicing, rigging cables overhead ("flying"), and threading them underground ("rodding and roping"). By paying keen attention to detail, I ensure the seamless delivery of fibre optic services.Due to the nature of my role, I have gained extensive experience working away from home for extended periods, effectively adapting to various locations across the UK. This flexibility, combined with my practical expertise, aligns seamlessly with the demands of advanced heavy engineering roles.Safety remains paramount in my work, with a strong focus on safe climbing practices and a comprehensive understanding of utilizing a Ground Disturbance Unit (GDU) for gas detection.
