CurrentThe next major phase of my career saw me transition from the small oem I began at to a major nationwide consulting engineering firm. This has afforded me the opportunity to observe and navigate a much larger company structure and work on much larger scale projects while interacting with significantly larger teams and clients. Everything about this job has been bigger and more exciting. I began as a controls engineer learning the packaging world, then slotting into a project management role and eventually to a position handling machine safety applications. I've had the opportunity to program machine controls on many different platforms including the big players like Rockwell and Siemens as well as countless smaller platforms. I continue to uncover new and interesting paths within the engineering world. For about a year and a half in 2014-15 I programmed with and managed a team implementing a SQL Server relational database for production data. We covered everything from PLC code up to scripts on the server and reporting service reports for the end users. Looking back now, that was one of the most challenging projects of my career but also one of the most significant in terms of how it shaped me. Since that project I’ve continued to work with clients in diverse industries such as brewing, renewable energy, food and beverage and automotive. Beer, bridges, windmills, yogurt, electric cars. It’s been nothing short of a wild ride.I became certified in machine safety by TUV Nord in 2019. After covid budgeting derailed a focus on developing and expanding Design Group's machine safety program in the western US, I've been engaged on project management for several high profile projects with clients starting up new production facilities in the plant-based milk and semi-conductor industries. Milk to computer chips, the processes may be different but the fundamentals of starting a new production line are remarkably similar when they're laid out.
