About Chris Robson

Chris worked at a senior executive level in the Queensland public service for some 20 years up to the end of 2012, leading substantial public sector business groups and policy reforms with workforces of up to 900 staff and annual budgets of up to $140 million. Chris has particular experience and knowledge in organisational governance and performance, natural resource management (land, water, vegetation and catchment management), land administration (statutory valuations, titles, state leasehold land, spatial information) and the State's role in enabling Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land ownership and addressing native title and cultural heritage.Chris has extensive governance, strategic planning and performance management experience and skills developed as member of boards of management and their committees such as Finance, Audit and Risk, Information Management, and communinty and stakeholder engagement experience and skills developed over his working career. He has lead the development, negotiation and implementation of numerous significant public policy, legislation, science and operational reforms, the resolution of many legal and litigation matters, the strategic planning, governance, workforce management and ethical practice of large work groups, and been the principal source of advice and briefings to CEOs, Ministers, and stakeholder groups. From September 2013 to December 2020 Chris worked for the Queensland University of Technology in project management roles, firstly on a project reviewing all of QUT's distributed sites and identifying opportunities for improving their operation and performance, and then providing strategic analysis of the viability and planning of proposals for new strategic infrastructure and other projects.

In this time he lead the development and delivery of Queensland's first catchment based water resource plans for four major river systems (the Fitzroy, Burnett and Boyne river catchments and the Cooper Creek catchment, and public release of 5 plans (the Warrego/Paroo, Condamine-Balonne, Moonie,Barron, Pioneer river catchments). He also granted the first interim water resource allocations and licences for all SunWater and SEQ Water water supply schemes in Queensland, and facilitated the formation and operation of the national Great Artesian Basin Consultative Committee and the Qld GAB Advisory Committee, and intergovernmental agreements for the Border Rivers (with NSW) and the Lake Eyre Basin (with SA and Commonwealth). Chris was also responsible for developing policy options for Qld's responses to the Murray Darling Basin Commission and Ministerial Council regarding the MDB Water Audit, implementation of the water cap, salinity management strategy, and community engagement processes.
