Experience includes engineering design and project management.Since 1982 my experience has been in the safety related and defence industries, mainly related to nuclear power generation, nuclear reprocessing and petrochemical industries. My principal activities have revolved around the analysis of structures, plant and equipment to survive extreme and hazard loads, such as wind, seismic/earthquake, fire, explosion and impact. These scenarios require the solution by advanced techniques; primarily the Finite Element Method supported by hand calculation. Solving these classes of problems has lead to the development of a strong background in structural dynamics and non-linear static and dynamic response. Where necessary the commercial analysis codes have been backed up by bespoke programming; I have also taken an interest in rejuvenating the computationally efficient Soil Structure Interaction (SSI) codes SMACS/CLASSI, FLUSH and SHAKE.Activities are not solely centered on the safety related industries and I have experience in many other fields including general industry and the leisure industry. I also have experience in forensic analysis, identifying cause of failure; and back fitting existing structures and plant to accept new loading or new standards. A significant part of my experience includes beyond design code justification of structures and plant.I am available to provide an overview input to projects providing background support to in-house and established analysis teams.
