Senior Facilities Technician
CurrentIn collaboration with Facilities Program Supervisors, oversees major repair projects and upgrades of electrical systems, HVAC systems and related equipment; reviews plans and lays out jobs; works with engineers to resolve potential problems with new installations and construction and the purchase of replacement equipment; estimates and orders required parts, materials and supplies; monitors work of contractors and employees to ensure timely completion of maintenance and repair projects/work orders in accordance with department policies and safety standards; assists with field inspections of work in progress and at completion. Plans and lays out jobs from drawings, sketches or verbal instructions; maintains records in the form of plans and specifications for HVAC equipment, chilled water systems, boilers, heat exchangers, refrigerated samplers as well as low-voltage electrical equipment, appliances and fixtures. Operate, maintain and repair the building automation systems (BAS) and building controls for the facilities HVAC and Laboratory Exhaust systems. Schedule and direct the work of contractors hired for specialty jobs; review HVAC infrastructure designs and specifications; coordinates work with a construction project manager and/or contractor during construction or repair; oversee contractor work quality and safety performance. Determine parts and equipment needed for maintenance and repair work; makes oral and written reports for work done; complete basic records, such as work orders, time sheets, requisitions and accident reports.Coordinates activities with other departments. Researches new technologies, equipment, work methods and processes; analyzes and recommends new or modified equipment, tools, methods, processes, forms and materials to improve productivity, efficiency and employee safety; educates and trains staff on new and revised approaches, equipment and tools.
