Campaigning on issues relating to persons who have learning disabilities.By being retired this enabled me to assist with the care of my disabled daughter, however she is no more having deid in October 2022. It needs a much higher profile and be recognised by government as an essential service for children and adults. While important the government only looks at social care for being for the elderly while this is so much not so.Care workers are not respected and paid so little for the responsibilities they need to undertake. Most are on around £11 per hour and this is so derisory for the work they do. To enable social care to be staffed sufficiently the pay rate needs to be at least £14/15 per hour, if not social care will continue to decline and so will the NHS.We need a listening government like never before, but will we get one, most likely not.
