In this role I am responsible for the management of a department of circa 30 engineers to develop and continuously improve core competency in the field of flight mechanics. I am a member of the engineering leadership team and report directly to the CTO.The scope covers the disciplines of modeling and simulation, flight control laws, aerodynamics (CFD & Wind Tunnel), aircraft performance, handling qualities and human factors.

In this role I was responsible for the recruitment, development and subsequent management/leadership of the Modeling and Simulation Team (growing the team from 1 engineer to 9) to develop the flight mechanics model of the Lilium aircraft, the associated simulation framework and engineering simulator assets. My core responsibilities included:1) Staffing, recruitment and subsequent management of the team2) Development and continuous improvement of department processes and methods and ensuring staff adherence to said methods (engineering quality)3) Provide technical oversight and direction to develop the reduced order modeling concept for the novel aircraft configuration, from Aerodynamic Databank development through to real time simulation4) Development of engineering simulation capability and pioneering the use of Virtual and Mixed Reality in Pilot-in-the-loop simulation as a device to be used throughout the engineering lifecycle.

In this position I have been involved with the development of an innovative Digital Automatic Flight Control System (AFCS) for a new aircraft Type from design phase through to Certification.Core responsibilities include:★ Control of all aspects of the flight test activity for the new AFCS - an extremely fast paced, 18 month flight test campaign to tune the system, optimise performance, and demonstrate compliance with Certification and Customer requirements.★ Knowledge and application of the appropriate Company and Industry approved Systems Engineering Processes and Standards e.g EASA CS29, SAE ARP4761 ★ Application of knowledge of helicopter dynamics, control theory, software design and avionics equipment★ Development and integration of simulation infrastructure and a high fidelity flight model with the DAFCS HW integration rig to aid in the product System/Subsystem testing.
