I began working with computers at the age of 8 when I got my first Commodore VIC-20 and a Datasette. (that's a cassette tape storage drive if you've never heard of one!) I thank my older brother and my parents for buying me that, living on a small fourth-generation family farm in a rural community the odds of me getting modern technology to play with were pretty slim, but there you have it. I have always been a tinkerer and loved to experiment. I guess that's built into people who are raised on a farm and usually have to make their own tools and improvise, I consider it heredity! I taught myself BASIC at a very young age and proceeded to go onto a Commodore 64, 5.25" disk drives, 3.5" disks, sector editing (to properly copy software...) and some assembly. Used BBS's to dial up and connect to my teacher who ran one and some across the local area code. Experimented with war dialers and had a pretty good feel for "connecting" with other systems and computers WAY before the Internet had evolved into mainstream use. I also got into a lot of trouble with my Dad about the high phone bill, but that is another story! I began using my uncle's PC around the age of 11 and by issuing every DOS command in the sub-directory, taught myself how to format a hard drive, re-install MS-DOS and use it in the process!During my teenage years I continued to play around with PC's and the old Commodore systems but generally didn't have a lot of time for computers until my high school enhanced it's aging Apple II's with some newer PC's and AutoCAD software. I promptly took a drafting class and began to use it with great enthusiasm.
