About Chris Trantom
Bizarrely, it's not daily front page news that the oceans are being boiled, forests will soon be gone, fertile soil is disappearing, insects are kaput, plastic is in our blood. We are collectively staring down the barrel of the most potentially turbulent time in modern human history. And then there's all the other emergencies. And then there's bloody work as well, which is why you're on LinkedIn today - probably procrastinating on whatever work task is not going away, no matter how hard you try and ignore it. The point is our present and future problems are complex and we're only going to solve them together. So what? Well I work at &us - they offer the skills that we (and I) need to learn and share and perfect - How to really understand the problems we face, how to prioritise where to put your energy and how to come up with new ways to solve them all. I'll have some of that wisdom, please, and you can pay me in seashells or whatever passes for currency in 2030.Working together means getting good at understanding and navigating the nature of human relationships. This is fascinating and complex work and I'm absolutely gripped by it all - it's a thread that's run through my whole career. My background covers getting my hands dirty making loads of stuff, and coaching and advising other people to help them make loads of stuff even better than they do already. I love it, talk to me if you do too.
Listed skills include Project Planning, Client Services, Project Management, Account Management, and 24 others.

Freelance Project Lead
I lead a collaborative project to create a bespoke design style for Wellcome's data visualisation (graphs and charts). My role was to facilitate the collaboration between different functions and stakeholders, holding the tension between the following priorities identified for a successful design system:Clarity - does the data add to the story we want to tell?Precision - does the visualisation of the data actually display what we're saying it does?Aesthetic - does the visualisation look beautiful and communicate the Wellcome Trust brand? Scalability - can the organisation easily create data visualisations using the design system when needed?I used an agile approach to get our work in front of our customer quickly. In order to invite feedback on work-in-progress I set up a gallery in a communal space inside the building, which encouraged feedback from passers-by. I also facilitated regular cross-functional meet-ups, creating space for teams from design, data science, finance, digital etc. to share learning and challenges resulting from testing and to explore the friction between their competing (and complimentary) priorities and find consensus. I sat with the teams doing their work (and having their lunch!) to better understand the challenges they faced when visualising data in their day-to-day work and key projects. This insight fed the design team who could iterate toward a final design system in response to customer feedback. You can see (some of) what we built for Wellcome in one of their major reports (attached). This was a brilliant project to be involved with and a great test-bed for all that I've learned about the way collaborative teams work. All the people I worked alongside at Wellcome and the design team at Clever Franke were brilliant human beings and were a delight to work with.
