Ever since my first experience with a computer that could play high-tech games like X-Com and Tie Fighter (which were installed using a handful of floppy disks), I've been into computers. I can clearly recall my mom saying, "Chris, it's past your bedtime" and my typical response of "Just one more level!" As I grew older, I became more and more curious about what kind of magic was actually going on inside that box. After I took my first programming class in high school, I was sure that I wanted to make a career out of making that magic happen myself. I have worked for the past five years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Wisconsin School of Business as a web developer -- starting as a student worker, and later getting hired into a full-time position -- and have learned a lot both technically and professionally during my time there. I've had the opportunity to work on many different projects, the biggest being serving as the lead developer of a huge website redesign. My team and I took a bloated, non-responsive site and turned it into a skinny, responsive, accessible, and SEO-friendly site. I also developed an online shopping interface for the school’s in-house print center and worked on many small MVC applications that the school uses. Professionally, I learned how to work well within an Agile environment, plan and estimate work, meet deadlines, hone my written communication skills, and just be an overall team player. At this point in my career, I'm looking to expand my range of knowledge and discover what others are doing in the world of programming. I feel lucky to live during such an exciting technological time and am enjoying being immersed in it as things quickly progress at what feels like breakneck speed.
