Designing, implementing, and maintaining high-performance, scalable web applications

At Figured I was the team lead for the Figured Insights project during the initial development phase.Then from November 2021 until 2023 I led one of the Feature development teams. We focused on improvements and additions to the core Figured app, including:- Financial & Production Reports- Public APIs- Third party API integrations- Livestock Valuations- Laravel upgrades- Front end and back end bug fixes- Performance improvements

Figured is a fast moving company that is always keen to build for new opportunities, while striving for perfection with our current features.To do this, Figured runs a modern monolith style Laravel (PHP) application, backed by MySQL and MongoDB databases, while using Vue.js for a dynamic user experience. We also have a few microservices running alongside where needed to power various API integrations.My days at Figured can vary a lot. I've worked on many new features, integrations, and bug fixes. Front end, back end, we do it all, with every developer contributing their skills.

At Catalyst Auckland I have taken on the role of Lead Developer and Analyst for a proprietary web platform on behalf of a New Zealand based insurance company. We have a team of six developers, including the client's in house developer.We are helping the customer develop a full digital transformation strategy. The current big project is migration of a legacy (10 plus year old) set of Windows desktop applications from an acquired company. All the data, from 3 different databases, and the complex business processes, are being moved to the web platform.The site is on a typical LAMP stack, using a custom MVC style framework, with many third party integrations.The other projects I have been involved with for this client site include:- a continuous integration platform for the client, using tech such as Docker based development environments, Gitlab for development and CI testing, Ansible build tools etc.- a security audit and security feature development, implementing best practice security for end users.- a database restructure project, focusing on data quality improvements.I've also continued my E-Learning work, assisting our Sales team as a technical consultant, and been the personal point of contact for the Catalyst Open Knowledge team's Auckland based clients.Other recent work includes Drupal SSO integrations, and R&D work using Laravel. I also still enjoy mentoring and training junior level developers.

As a senior developer I have continued my technical lead position for the UNICEF Agora platform, and taken on responsibility for the KayaConnect (Humanitarian Leadership Academy) and Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) LMS platforms. I am usually found working directly with clients as an analyst, fleshing out requirements, and writing technical specifications and estimates. Luckily I still have time to write some code too.I have also mentored junior developers and other new team members.

E-Learning developer, working mainly with Moodle, Totara and Mahara.My main focus is Technical Lead for the UNICEF Agora project, a large-scale Totara LMS.

The E-Learning team at Catalyst works with Moodle, Totara, and Mahara. We do hosting, development, consulting, integration, and support.

I worked on a short term secondment to help build the first version of Totara 2, based on Moodle 2.2.

During the pre-beta phase for version 1.0 of Totara LMS, I was hired on a short-term contract to build a unit test suite.The technologies used were PHP SimpleTest and Cucumber.I successfully completed the project goals, bringing full-coverage functional unit testing to the first public release of Totara LMS.This work led into me being hired full-time at Catalyst.
