Chris is a British architect with a PhD from the Welsh School of Architecture in Cardiff, where is currently a lecturer and course leader for the MSc in Sustainable Building Conservation. He studied his undergraduate degrees at Edinburgh College of Art with a six month Erasmus exchange at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and an ILAUD summer school in Venice with Giancarlo de Carlo and Peter Smithson. His first year out was with Building Design Partnership in Glasgow. Following graduating with honours of the first class and Diploma with distinction Chris moved to London to work with Shepheard Epstein Hunter, followed by seven years with Edward Cullinan Architects (ECA). Projects with ECA included a new university in Singapore, a music centre for the Purcell School, a library and IT centre for Fitzwilliam College Cambridge and a residential project in Gloucester that received Ecohomes excellent rating from BREEAM. During his last two years with ECA he worked one day a week as a studio tutor in the 3rd year at Nottingham University.In 2007 Chris moved to Chile where he worked in three universities; Universidad Central de Chile, Universidad Andrés Bello; and Universidad Católica de Temuco. At these universities his work was primarily related to research into sustainable, energy efficient and vernacular architecture. With a special interest in natural low carbon building materials. He has presented papers on his research in international conferences. In addition he was an invited lecturer in postgraduate programs at the Universidad Bio Bio in Concepción and the Pontifica Universidad Católica in Santiago.Currently he is a lecturer on the MSc Sustainable Building Conservation, at the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University. He continues to research the topic of his PhD the distribution of historic timber-framed buildings in the UK and the impact of their energy retrofit.
