After closing Leaf, I spent the next three years continuing in a similar role, albeit as a freelancer. I helped a number of long-term and new clients to both create new products and improve their existing ones. Again, I predominantly worked on web apps and websites.

After a number of years in senior and leadership positions, Mike Carter and I decided to start our own agency. Initially part-time, Leaf became our full-time focus at the end of 2016.Being directly responsible for the growth and wellbeing of others was another new experience for me, but one I thoroughly enjoyed. At its largest, the Leaf team was made up of six full-time engineers and designers.At Leaf, we built long-standing relationships with a handful of local businesses and startups, working closely with the likes of Holiday Extras, RIFT, and Laced. My roles with each of these clients was to translate stakeholder requirements into design solutions, provide exploratory and conceptual design work, and support their in-house engineering teams.

After nearly two years at Red Bullet, I was promoted to lead designer, overseeing the creative output of the design team, and becoming more active in the process in winning new work.Red Bullet allowed me to lead design projects for household names like Admiral, Expedia, and Santander, as well as for established UK organisations like the NHS, Croydon Council, and Kent County Council.

I joined Red Bullet, initially on a secondment from Etch, before making the switch permanently after six months. The move to Red Bullet gave me my first senior position in the web industry, working under a lead designer, and with licence to support the less experienced members of the design team.

I decided that working in an established web agency would afford me the most valuable experience given the stature of clients and diversity in the work, and began looking for appropriate companies. I put Etch top of my wish-list, and when a design position became available a few months after reaching out to them, I landed my ideal role.I joined a design team of four, taking on a string of small websites for established clients like Irn-Bru, Orangina, Greene King IPA, Cushelle, and Velvet. The role also allowed me to continue designing web applications, creating various dashboards and data visualisations for a number of domestic and international clients.

I moved on a secondment to Virally when the owner of Fruitbowl Media received outside investment in the startup. Similarly with my role at Fruitbowl, this was my first experience of working in a startup, which exposed me to an entirely new way of working.Initially, I was the only designer in the team, which meant I oversaw the creation of an entirely new brand and website, produced bespoke HTML email templates, and designed print work including flyers and roller banners. As the startup grew and new designers joined the team, my role became product-specific, and I worked solely on the Saas application itself.

With the company still in its infancy, I joined as the only full-time designer, and as such had a considerable amount of autonomy across the creative arm of the business.I predominately worked with small businesses & startups, producing high-fidelity mockups, static HTML and CSS websites, and user interfaces for a variety of web applications.

At John Parker & Son, I specialised in email marketing, working as part of an in-house design team. I primarily worked across the company's two largest divisions, ParkerSteel and ParkerTools, creating bespoke HTML emails, and managing email campaigns from ideation through to inbox analytics. Being a generalist role and working within a small internal team, my role also included print design, search engine optimisation, and managing various Google AdWord campaigns.
