I’m currently the head of marketing & community engagement at the Medicine Hat Public Library. Just getting settled in so a more detailed description will have to wait. Before this job…I spent three-and-a-half years working at two weekly newspapers in Southern Alberta, covering everything a small town has to offer from town council and education to entertainment and sports. In February 2008 I was hired as night editor at the Medicine Hat News and was promoted to associate editor the next year. While in that position and seeing a gap that needed to be filled, I took it upon myself to take control of the online operations of the newspaper. In April 2013, I stepped into the newly-created position of multi media editor. I manage the content on the Medicine Hat News website and social media sites.In my position as multi media editor I've continued with many of the traditional skills of journalism such as writing, photography, editing and layout. I've also advanced my knowledge of skills that are emerging in the new media environment, skills such as video, social media engagement and website analytics. The Medicine Hat News website and its social media channels has seen consistent growth during my time in charge of the digital operations.I've also taken on management and leadership roles in the editorial department, overseeing a staff of between eight and ten, and have been a main point of contact for other department heads and the general public on a variety of topics and needs.I started a new chapter in my career in March 2020, taking the job of digital journalist at CHAT News Today in Medicine Hat. I keep the local TV station's digital platform filled with up-to-the-minute content, look after the station's Facebook and Twitter accounts and keep on top of the digital world for story ideas and local happenings.
