My peers all had phones by the 8th grade, thus, when my mom could finally afford to buy my first phone, a Nexus 6P, during my sophomore year of high school, I was ecstatic. Long fascinated by tech, when I unboxed the phone and powered it on for the first time, I felt exhilarated having my own device to explore. I was mesmerized by the phone and its capabilities; however, I quickly understood it was outclassed by its rivals: it suffered from a subpar battery, grainy resolution, and no waterproof capabilities. I expected more from a reputable corporation like Google, but the device left me feeling unfulfilled, especially considering that my mom worked so hard to get it for me. I kept thinking of ways I could build upon the Nexus’s foundation and improve the device while keeping it budget-friendly. This pushed me to enroll in a robotics course my junior year of high school. There, I realized that I wanted to pursue computer engineering. I do not want people to age without technology because it serves an important purpose in our everyday lives. My mission is to help influence future technology by making the devices we use daily smarter, faster, and more compact while keeping them cost-efficient for consumers.

Summer Science Research ProgramBarry University Jun 2016 - Jul 2016For my research, I was immersed in a project by isolating DNA from foods made from corn, soybean, or wheat. I then amplified parts of this DNA by performing a method called polymerase chain reaction (PCR); finally, I analyzed the results looking for the presence or absence of the specific DNA sequences characteristic of those artificially introduced genes.
