Saving money and time is everyone's goal. With construction and engineering projects it is critical. Sorting things out at the start is essential and that means sorting out the deal and the contracts so that everyone knows where they are going. "If you don't know where you're going you'll end up someplace else" as they say.I see my role as being to help my clients get the deal done (or get out of the mess without resorting to formal adjudication or litigation - both of which I am very happy to leave to my colleagues). I will amend contracts, draft contracts, negotiate them and advise on them, but always the objective is to reach a deal which everybody can agree on and go forward with. It is rare for there to be no way forward to a workable deal, so long as people are willing to work at it and use a little ingenuity and experience.Over the past 20 years I have been involved in some high profile and high value transactions, including: the Olympic Aquatic Centre (advising the builder); the NET Tram system in Nottingham (advising the Council); a 180 acre business park (advising the developer); numerous PFI projects in various sectors from the 1990s onwards; around £200m worth of pharmaceutical research laboratories; and many smaller projects which were just as much fun to do.
