I co-founded Kennedy Van der Laan in 1992. My practice covers insurance and liability law. I specialize in large material damages and personal injury claims, amongst others medical, product and employers' liability. My clients are primarily the insurance industry and commercial businesses.Besides being a practicing attorney at law, I am a deputy judge in the Court of First Instance of The Hague and deputy justice in the Court of Appeal of Arnhem.I also work as a mediator in the field of insurance and liability law. I focus especially on material damages and injuries. Furthermore I lecture at the Grotius Academy, Stichting Studiecentrum Rechterlijke macht (SSR) (Training and Study Centre for the Judiciary) and Stichting Personenschade, Instituut van Verzekeraars (PIV). I give lectures about a wide range of liability issues, such as professional, supervisors', employers' and product liability, as well as the liability of financial service providers. The topics of these lectures are personal injury, insurance, causality, extent of damage and limitation. Besides, every year I lecture in the refresher course of LSA (the Organization for Personal Injury Lawyers).I am also an active author and editor. I publish on a wide range of topics of liability and insurance law in several Dutch journals. My solid background as an attorney at law, judge, mediator, lecturer and editor enables me to assess a case thoroughly. Based on this I always strive to be a personal sparring partner for my clients and to help them with pragmatic solutions.
