Many bars and clubs that I’ve worked at started out by asking themselves that same question. Over time, I’ve come to realize that it’s never a mistake to have a karaoke show in an establishment. When karaoke shows don’t work out, the reason is almost always something else. While there are some great karaoke shows out there, two major issues often come up: 1. Some karaoke shows are simply one singer right after the other. In some ways this can work out. Rather, I see a great show as one where the host is fully interactive with the patrons, including those that are not singing, utilizing the crowd’s energy to make the show successful. 2. In most cases, you get what you pay for. Some establishments will simply hire the cheapest karaoke host they can find. Often times this also results in an inferior show, with little selection of music to choose from, and a host that treats it too much like a job, maybe drinks too much, and really may not even want to be there. Additionally, may companies that underbid other shows or charge cheaper prices may be using pirated karaoke music. Not only is that illegal for the host/company, the bar can be held liable too if they knowingly hired a host that pirates music. It is my policy to refrain from drinking at my shows, so that I may portray the most professional image possible. Show less
