I built a bids and proposals division (federal/state/local/private-sector) from the ground up for a budding tech consulting firm that was taking its first steps into the competitive arena. When I left, we had become a national leader in our sectors, routinely bidding on and executing multi-million-dollar contracts in IT, defense, and homeland security. At the same time, my division expanded from a department of one to a multi-state team of nearly a dozen full-time personnel, including proposal coordinators/writers, researchers, and graphic designers. I became recognized for my ability to identify, attract, train, and retain outstanding personnel. Along the way, we developed robust processes/infrastructure modeled on industry best practices. I learned that the best way to meet business objectives is to put people first. If your staff know that you care about their welfare and that you will go into the trenches with them, they will go to the mat for you―and the firm, and each other―again and again. Supporting and mentoring these dedicated colleagues became my most important job.Recent years have led me to pursue a new passion, working one-on-one with individuals as a life coach in private practice. However, I keep my saw sharp by consulting part-time with companies on their proposal and business development needs. I have experience working and teaming with organizations of all sizes. I have a special place in my heart for emerging firms; I recognize in their challenges many of the same issues that we overcame in the early years. I accept a limited number of proposal and business development consulting engagements, serving as a senior advisor, strategist, reviewer, subject matter expert, and writer/content developer.
