After more than 15 years working in hospitality and food service, I decided to shake things up a little bit. In October 2021, I began working towards a cybersecurity specialist diploma. I am scheduled to complete that in April 2023, as well as intending to write the certification exams for CompTIA's A+, Network+, CySA+, PenTest+ and Cisco's CCNA in the coming months. I have not written any of those exams yet, but have been studying hard, working away in my homelab and exploring other related fields and niches that catch my interest. A few of the things that I've begun exploring include wireless communications (Wifi, RFID, NFC, etc.), social engineering, penetration testing, and OSINT. I've also been doing some contract work for a private investigations firm and am looking into writing the exam to become a licensed private investigator sometime in the first half of 2023.There is a six week practicum as part of my cybersecurity diploma program. I would love to find an organization willing to take on a student for some hands on, real world training and experience that focuses on any of those areas. if you, or anyone you know, would like to share some of the things you've learned during your experience in cybersecurity with a practicum placement student, please get in touch.
