I have been working with Vizone International since March 2010 having advised and assisted with the setup of their group in Malta. The tax advice has continued with an emphasis on international issues, including transfer pricing and the new statutory residence test.The group has since expanded from its core business of management consultancy to clients such as Vodafone and Alcatel Lucent to that of venture capitalist. There are now ten companies in the group, split between the UK and Malta, these range from a travel agent to a developer of patented smart phone applications. I am responsible for and support the financial strategy and reporting of the Group, which involves the balancing of commercial and tax strategies.

I was responsible for tax policy at Randall & Payne and oversaw the management of the tax team.The nature of the tax advisory work I was involved in varied across most direct taxes, this included business structuring (e.g. Management Service Companies, LLPs, Corporate Partners and incorporation), R&D claims, transactional SDLT planning and Share based employee incentives (e.g. EMI) and employment status issues.I have developed Environmental Taxes as a specialism, my advice has included the interaction between incentives, such as the Feed In Tariff, and capital taxes. This is an area of particular interest and as a result I joined the CIOT’s Environmental Taxes Working Group. I initially joined the firm as part of the professional partnerships tax team. This involved portfolio compliance work at first and then progressed to becoming part of the team involved with legal practices restructuring. This led on to becoming part of the technical team responsible for budget commentary and tax publication production.I later moved into the corporate tax department, where I became part of the R&D Tax Credit and M&A tax teams. I then also became part of the HNW tax planning team where I developed a specialism in SDLT.
