I looked after a team of 9 staff based in British Forces Germany, covering Radio, TV and digital. My role encompassed liaison with the local military Command to ensure that we were delivering on contract to the MoD and providing the service expected of us.

I managed ten UK based radio stations for BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Service). The stations are based in Aldershot, Aldergrove, Ballykinler, Blandford, Catterick, Colchester, Edinburgh, Holywood (Belfast), Lisburn and Salisbury Plain I was responsible for liaising between local military Command, BFBS Senior Management, local staff and the MoD Contract Team to deliver local radio services to UK military bases.I was responsible for ensuring Ofcom compliance for each of the licenses and ensuring that our teams of military Directors in each location are happy with what each station is delivering within the MoD contract.Each station had its own annual budget and I had the responsibility to ensure that each one delivers on financial target.I was responsible for the day-to-day training and mentoring of the team of Producer/Presenters and reporters in the locations. We also utilise volunteer staff in the different regions and I had overall responsibility for their ongoing training and support.I saw my role as trying to bring BFBS's successful overseas community station model of 'Community Glue' to our UK set up.BFBS took over the contract for UK Bases on April 1st 2013 and I was brought back to the UK to oversee the stations and the contract.

I ran the team of Producer/Presenters and reporters based across Cyprus.This involved ensuring that BFBS Cyprus delivered what was need by the wider military community on the island. Liaising with local Command and individual units and bases (RAF Akrotiri, Episkopi, Dhekelia, Ay Nik and UN Nicosia).I set up and managed a daily local news service for BFBS Cyprus called 'Cyprus Today' which focused on British Forces Cyprus military stories with a review of the Cyprus press reports. This took on extra significance following the 2011 Zygi Power Station explosion and the Cyprus financial crash of early 2013.I was responsible for the mentoring and pastoral care of the 12 staff based on island. In addition I trained a number of volunteer presenters, some of whom have since joined BFBS on full time contracts or moved to other stations (Pirate FM in Cornwall being one).I initiated Work Experience programmes for the children of military personnel based on the island and we ran successful NVQ training programmes.I had overall responsibility for the large annual budget for the station.I also presented a daily show on the station and a weekly Dance show on the network called The VibeI also completed two, three-month tours with BFBS Afghanistan in summer 2010 and over Christmas/New Year 2012

Belize

Managing one of the smaller BFBS stations and responsible for daily programme, news & info gathering and producing and presenting TV stories for the BFBS network.Liaising with local Command and the British Consulate in Belmopan.Ensuring that BFBS delivered a properly targeted community radio service

Cyprus

I was responsible for the ongoing training and mentoring if the Producer/Presenters and Reporters based on the island.I presented a daily show myself I also trained a team of volunteers presenters from within the military community

Northern Ireland

I ran a team of Producer/Presenters and Producers in a number of locations across Northern Ireland.When I arrived in late 2004, Op BANNER was still running and the work involved visiting our audience in every location from RAF Aldergrove to Omagh, from Ballykelly to Girdwood Barracks and from Crossmaglen to Lisburn.When Op BANNER ended and the picture of what was to remain became clearer, I oversaw the setting up of not-for-profit PLC's with military Directors and successfully applied for 4 FM Community Radio licences. The Ofcom Licences for each station (Aldergrove, Ballykelly, Holywood and Lisburn) required us to reach out to the wider local community as well as our core military audience. I organised for the team to carry out the first ever BFBS outside broadcasts in Northern Ireland from non-military locations. We actively involved the local communities from across the spectrum with school visits and an ongoing programme with the local Lisburn Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme.I was invited to join the newly formed Northern Ireland Community Radio Association which met in locations making up every sector of the local communities.I liaised on an almost daily bases with local Command at HQNI, Media Ops, local councils and other organisations (PSNI etc)I presented a daily show and a weekly dance show called The VibeI also operated as a VJ (Video Journalist) covering stories for BFBS TV and radioIn a freelance capacity, I also worked as a photographer for the local Lisburn newspaper.I also completed a three month tour as Station Manager and presenter/TV Reporter for BFBS Iraq in mid-summer 2005

Belize

I managed a small team of Producer/Presenters and presented a daily show myself as well as a weekly dance show.I acted as a radio and TV reporter for BFBS TV and Radio.I trained a number of volunteer presenters and actively involved the base school (Toucan Primary School) in our programme output

I ran a team of reporters based in all the major military locations across British Forces Germany.We delivered three bulletins each day in the form of 'BFG Reports' focusing on both military and German stories of interest to our forces community.I recruited and trained military Dependents (wives and husbands of serving personnel) to become fully functioning, self-contained reporters. A number of them have since joined BFBS full time or moved on to other organisations such as the BBC.I also oversaw the production and presentation of a number of weekly radio programmes looking back at the weeks BFG news, upcoming entertainment and general events and info specifically aimed at a younger audience.I also completed a four month tour as Station Manager and presenter for BFBS Kosovo in summer 2000 and BFBS Bosnia in winter 2002

I had responsibility for a staff of 7 in this remote location in the South Atlantic. This included professional and pastoral care.I also had control of the local budget with the Head of Engineering, and we would plan our financial stategy accordingly.I presented and produced a weekday lunchtime show.My role saw me as the main point of contact between the company and the military in this important location, dealing with a huge variety of issues and sensitivities. I also had some involvement with Falkland Islands Government legislature as BFBS is a partner organisation with their own broadcasting service.I continued my TV reporting duties including making a series of 6 features on a Royal Navy trip to the remote outpost of South Georgia.

I co-hosted the re-launched BFBS Cyprus breakfast show which proved to be one of the stations highest rated shows ever.I was responsible for recruiting and training volunteer and freelance presenters, some of whom went on to their own careers in broadcasting.I devised and presented a weekly dance music programme for the BFBS worldwide network which continues to this day. I have continued to present this show (The Vibe) and carry out the necessary record/promotion company liaison ever since even during BFBS deplyments to Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia and so on.I used my radio reporting experience as the basis of a new venture into TV reporting for BFBS TV worldwide. I shot and edited a range of stories including with the RAF Arrows display team.My job also involved working closely with commercial organisations in Cyprus to obtain sponsorship for prizes and large station events.

Presenting & Producing radio programmes for the nationwide Superstation from the studios of Piccadilly Radio in Manchester

I was recruited as the launch breakfast presenter for Thanet when Invicta Radio split its FM frequencies.I hosted the daily breakfast show and spent the remainder of my working day out on the road with the small sales team to help raise the profile of the new service with local businesses and the community at large.I also hosted a huge number of outside broadcasts and radio roadshows across Kent and beyond.

Responsibilities included presenting a daily sequence show for the London stores and recruiting/training new staff. I also programmed the music played after regular meetings with head office Marketing teams, store senior management and department heads to ensure that we were truly supporting their targetted promotional campaigns and to offer new ideas on how we could better help them achieve these aims at point of sale.I also helped to set up, then engineered and hosted a series of in store appearences by various bands, performers and artists including Ozzy Osbourne, Michael Jackson, BBC Radio 1, MTV and Bros at the height of their fame.

I was recruited to help devise the launch breakfast show for this new radio station based in Milton Keynes which formed part of the Chiltern Radio Group.

Presenting and Producing weekend breakfast show on the youth orientated Power FM station in Southampton/Portsmouth. I had to devise and execute promotions and competitions for the station in liaison with the sales team and Programme Controller. These were expected to deliver fun on-air competitions for the listener whilst delivering sales results to client companies involved.I also covered for a number of other shows across the Ocean Sound radio network.My Flying Eye duties involved obtaining an early morning brief from Hampshire Police on potential travel hotspots and then joining the pilot at Southampton Airport to pre-check the aircraft before getting airborne to provide a number of traffic reports into all four Ocean Sound Group radio services. I also hosted a number of listeners and sales clients on these early morning trips, ensuring that they had a safe and memorable trip whilst making sure my traffic reports still happened at exactly the time they were meant to.

Presentation of daily show aboard the Voice of Peace English language radio station off the coast of Tel Aviv, Israel.Responsible for professional and pastoral care of onboard presentation and engineering team on this live 24-hour a day station.Liaising via daily two-way radio communications with station senior management and sales department back onshore.Helping to crew the ship every six weeks on its journey to either Ashdod or Haifa port. Everything from helping to haul the anchor to navigating the ship with the Captain and tying the ship up in port was involved.
