Initially starting as assistant manager, I worked here for a year before applying for the manager’s role through The Laine Pub Company. After accepting the job offer, I was then allowed the creative freedom to develop the pub and essentially re-brand it as an ‘alternative’ venue. I quickly realised that quality live music and events were key in making this small and characteristic bar successful, whilst consistently providing customers with a high standard of service. In May the pub becomes a Fringe venue and plays host to over 100 comedy shows. Throughout the month there can be upwards of 10 performances in a day, which requires excellent organisation and communication skills. This is all promoted through various social media platforms which I monitor and update daily. As the main point of contact at The Quadrant, I booked a wide variety of events including live music, DJs, comedians, film nights and charity fundraisers amongst others. This resulted in a broader customer base and has gained the pub a reputation as a primary venue in the city. Building professional relationships is an important part of this job and throughout my time as manager, I was able to deal with promoters both locally and internationally.Since taking over, I managed to increase the annual turnover significantly and this is something I’m extremely proud of. The three years I spent there gave me an invaluable insight into running my own business, being responsible for my own employees and financial matters within a limited company has been an extremely important step in my professional career.
