Creative Operations: Project Structuring And Management That Supports Creative Work
Build marketing plans into growth strategies, design logos, plan businesses and encourage. In a small company, you wear a lot of hats. At PM, I plan and execute creative. That includes defining projects, writing the copy in Word and then moving to Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop for production.I also bridge end-users and engineers through an understanding of tech and user needs. I clarify tasks and roles (high-level project management), bring new talent onto the team and help frame opportunities in a strategic context for a well-backed tech company that's bringing cloud-based user testing to the UX community. In my strategy role, I analyze competition, build business models, and plan execution. I handle AR/AP and track long-term and short-term budgeting decisions in cooperation with our investor.Marketing: I oversee vetting of new ideas through email lists, web analytics and SEO. I help create relationships with high-level researchers in the UX field, and I write email updates, web copy and other forms of marketing communication.Project Management: I manage projects at a high level, including the management (as well as hiring and firing) of contractors.

Combat veterans live with an intensity, a love for freedom and a brotherhood that could change our nation for the better. And those veterans are attacked daily with thoughts and feelings that drive them to isolation, which is where the real damage happens. The Combat Veterans' Brotherhood Project gets guys found, strengthened and back into the fight of life.I lead all efforts to build community and create community, creating relationships in communities where veterans are the strongest, and helping them reach out from there through clear calls to action.
Co-Creation Brand Manager
The challenge with a startup is all the new processes that need to be put into place to operationalize the repeatable and leave room for flexibility. Because it allows you to grow without too much wasted movement. Pretty soon, you're on a firm foundation. And when you do crowdsourcing, open innovation and design, you need to find ways to keep the community engaged and interested in projects that are fun for them. And you need to keep them networked and growing. Because when you build a community of people who are passionate about the same thing, the culture does a bunch of the work that would otherwise cost time, quality and budget. Here's what I did at LM:- Led the initial integration of the first engineering challenges into the GE Fuse platform and trained GE senior staff in the understanding and proper use of co-creation in the Launch Forth platform.- Designed the first co-creation community podcast to build community relationships.- Started the Sparks initiative with the purpose of engaging users of the online community and getting their ideas to the point of being able to pitch.- Stood up the Essence of Innovation Challenge (and recorded a video with Grant Imahara to support it).- Organized, wrote and edited all internal co-creation best practices and forms.- Conducted weekly training and consultation for engineering and manufacturing staff on co-creation.
Instructor Of Advertising
I built brand strategists: men and women who made their own decisions and built their own processes. They knew what the data said and what it didn't say. They knew how to build a strategic plan to bring companies and products to market. They built campaigns plans and pitched them to clients like Leatherman Tool Company, Packasport, Western Shelter and Nutcase Helmets. To add intensity, I brought in other industry experts from agencies like Wieden + Kennedy, Yonder, Mutt Industries and Pollinate. In the end, my students had been through the fire, and were ready to get hired at the best brand agencies on the East and West Coast.By the time I left in 2015, I had led students in building complete advertising campaigns for companies ranging from $20 million to $50 million in revenue, by putting students in tough positions, where they need to quickly define strategic direction, conduct qualitative and quantitative research, turn it into strategy, build a media plan and execute creatively within an advertising budget and within time constraints.Writing and design: Taught writing, including editing, grammar, punctuation, voice and basic blogging skills. Guided the creation of ads and pitch books (similar to annual reports) in Indesign using styles and professional workflows. Taught Illustrator and basic Photoshop skills.Research: Taught students to go beyond the obvious in research using the good analysis and imagination to unearth insights that led to competitive advantage. Helped students build qualitative research through discussion guides and understand how to approach focus groups and interviews to gain insights. Helped them build quantitative research from sources and understanding its strengths and weaknesses.

Project Manager
Supported operations, projects and business development for a human-factors/UX engineering lab on a year-long contract.- Planned and organized participation in I/ITSEC (Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference.- Originated, organized and assisted in human factors studies (data gathering and analysis) on contracts for the US Navy, Federal Highway Administration and Rockwell Collins.
