With over 15 years of experience in a startup environment, I have had the opportunity to participate in the development of CVTCORP's ground breaking Toroidal Traction CVT technology. At CVT I am the technical expert that is responsible for the the calculation that determines the useful life, size and power capacity of our products. This includes the fatigue life calculation, as well as the traction calculation that determines the torque capacity of the CVT.My current responsibility is to manage the rolling contact fatigue testing program at CVT, as well as support product development and production as a technical reference in areas related to testing, tribology and CVT technology. This includes instrumentation, test bench design and commissioning, failure analysis, bearing technology, rolling contact fatigue, traction testing and modeling, bearing steels, heat treatment, metallurgy, oil analysis and others. CVT is a fast paced, creative environment where close collaboration within multidisciplinary teams of electrical, mechanical and software engineers is encouraged. CVTs approach to product development is to always keep manufacturing and production intent at the center of design work. Planning, design, manufacturing, inspection assembly and testing all happen in the same location, making the end result a thorough consideration of all aspects of the process. More recently I have developed, and custom built, a fatigue tester that allows for the versatile testing of our components in rolling contact fatigue. This tester is designed to incorporate traction, sliding and heat in hertzian contacts that simulate those in our CVTs. I was responsible for the project including overseeing the multidisciplinary team that designed, sourced, and commissioned the project, and managing the schedule, budget, and key project deliverables. 8 testers were built and run in a in house lab with automated control and data acquisition.
