About Christian Smith
Hi! I'm Christian Smith, a self-taught Software Engineer with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering!Since I was eleven years old I've been obsessed with programming. I started with game development using Java, C++, and C# with Unity, Game Maker Studio, SFML, and many other game frameworks. Eventually I got into other areas of software engineering like low level systems programming, AI, and networking. I'm also very experienced at this point in web development using technologies like React, Ruby on Rails, and languages including Javascript, Typescript, Rust, Ruby, and Go professionally.In order to better complement my software experience, I choose Electrical Engineering as my major. I focused on microelectronics in order to learn more about the digital hardware powering the computers I always loved to program. After completing my degree, I'm now going into my PhD in Computer Engineering at the University of Houston, starting Fall 2024, to study AI hardware accelerators!

Software Engineer Intern
During my second internship at Praeses I worked on research project to determine if Spotify's backstage would be a suitable developer portal infrastructure for internal tooling. I setup GitOps CI/CD including Kubernetes cluster and security measures like end-to-end encryption for deployment keys. I prototyped different workflows for creating plugins and maintaining plugins. I created a custom source control management plugin to integrate CI/CD pipeline status within the application. I wrote extensive documentation for functional elements including instructions for how to create new plugins and such. Me and the other intern I worked with prepared and presented a 50 minute presentation of our findings and recommendation including a live demo of what we built and Q&A to the engineering department of 40+ developers.Additionally, I briefly worked support on a fullstack C# web application.

Software Engineer Intern
At Praeses I worked on internal tooling using Rust, Ruby, and Javascript. I gained experience working both on front end (Ruby on Rails & JS) and back end (Rust) code bases. Me and the team I worked with applied an agile guided workflow which involved weekly sprint planning, standup, and retrospective meetings. I extensively used Git and Gitlab for SCM, sprint planning, and issue tracking. I also wrote comprehensive tests for all front and back end code. Throughout the internship I got to work with kubernetes and learned how to create, configure, and deploy clusters. This included deploying both software applications and data analytics programs into a kubernetes cluster.
