Supporting the EU's diplomatic activity in the UN, G20 and G7 to create the conditions for a sustainable global economy. Key thematics: enabling transition in EU product and finance markets to bring positive change in partner countries.

We need improved data on sustainability impacts of economic choices for investors, consumers, corporates and policy makers to make informed choices that align with Paris goals, SDGs and EU goals for a sustainable, circular economy. We need that data from all along the value chain of products, from suppliers across the world, and at the end of life of products, during recycling or repair. I am building on the G7 and G20's interest in this theme, to help nuture the conditions for access to high-quality, trusted data through global value chains.

The G7 and G20 forums provide opportunities for the governments of the world's leading economies to find solutions to global issues, including the transition to a circular, resource-efficient economy. I help the European Union engage actively and productively with the G7 and G20 on this transition. That includes themes of: Green finance, Marine litter and Plastics, innovation for a Circular Economy. I work with colleagues inside and outside the European Commission and G20 governments to define agendas, create effective exchange, build networks and enhance the outcomes of the G7 and G20 meetings.

Focus on: • Increasing the impact of organisations and evidence on public decision making • Creating improved high-level exchange on the economic and environmental potential. More detail:• Editor and/or co-author of 3 reports of the United Nations International Resource Panel, a science-policy panel rather like the IPCC.• UN Environment: strategic advice on increasing impact from their use of science, inc. conducting an evaluation of impact of the US $11 million programme spend on the International Resource Panel. • SYSTEMIQ - a consultancy founded by McKinsey partners (www.SYSTEMIQ.earth) aiming to tackle systemic (i.e. complex) global challenges.• European Climate Foundation – helping set-up an initiative promoting the GHG rationale for the circular economy, and building a consortium of 22 international organisations around a €6.5 million detailed Horizon 2020 project plan for long-term, low-carbon industrial transition strategies.• European Commission, Innovation DG: 'Secretary' of a multi-stakeholder expert group (UN, World Bank, OECD and others) advising the Commission on green growth strategy• European Commission, Environment and Industry Directorate Generals - supporting the EU's international diplomacy with the G7 and G20 with agenda setting, content and reporting.My work involved: analysis of dynamic, complex systems and system actors; institutional analysis; policy analysis, including impact assessment, conference facilitation, economic models; project initiation and winning funding; relationship building; change and process management; team, consortia and project management.

Creating, winning and managing international collaborative projects into opportunities and innovation in policy strategies for resource productivity and transtion to a sustainable, circular economy. Projects included: • Making the business cases for investment in sustainable innovations (e.g. the multi-billion euro opportunity of ‘nature-based’ flood defences), for the European Commission, DG Innovation• Designing policy interventions to support businesses scaling-up low-carbon, resource-efficient innovations, for the European Commission, DG Environment.• Investigating how multiple, simultaneous policy instruments could stimulate ‘green’ growth for the European Commission, DG Environment. • Developing new strategy directions for sustainability, for the European Sustainable Development Network (an intergovernmental network).Work included: project conception and leadership, team management, analytical and conceptual leadership, financial negotiations - e.g incl. increasing institute funding by €120,000 during project negotiations.

Creating, winning and managing international, collaborative research into innovation in finance and policy for a transition to a low-carbon economy. Including: • Leading research with international banks into how institutional and organisational arrangements hold back financing new growth areas (for the German Government).

The EU pioneered a strategy to deliver greater economic prosperity together with reduced environmental impact, by nurturing innovation - the Roadmap to a Resource Efficient Europe (now 'Circular Economy').I led the economic and environmental analysis team and shaped the strategy; engaged in cross-departmental diplomacy, speech writing and briefing at the highest political level. The strategy was adopted by 27 European governments.Work included team management, strategy drafting, commissioning and managment of €1.2 m of economic research. Key themes: tax, subsidies, innovation support, economic transition, lead market creation, procurement, recycling, product design, consumer behaviour, trade and environmental policy, resource productivity, circular economy.

Advised and coached policy teams in the development of policies for the EU's businesses and 500 million citizens. Used economic analysis and 'impact assessment methodologies' to improve the design of environmental, climate, innovation, recycling, taxation and product policy (20+ policies). (e.g. deciding what % of the annual EU stream of 10 million scrapped cars should be recycled).Working as an 'internal consultant' embedded within policy teams, frequently responsibile for policy design, analysis and inter-departmental negotiation. Commissioned, evaluated and managed large external consultancy research.Expertise in: eco-innovation, product policy, recycling (vehicles - ELV, electronic equipment - WEEE, plastics), industrial emissions, greening public procurement, greening VAT, product labelling, CO2 dmissions from ships, behavioural economics, carbon capture and storage, administrative burden reduction.

Led a team of 5 to improve the policy design processes in the UK Government Department dealing with climate, environment and agriculture policy.Specialist in Impact assessment of policy proposals, and 'Better Regulation', including reduction of administrative burden. Drafted the guidance used across the UK government to assess the greenhouse gas and environmental impacts of the UK's policies. Trained senior civil servants across UK government in the economics of sustainable development.
