Undergraduate ResearcherOakland University Apr 2018 - Nov 2020As a student at Oakland University, I have worked on multiple research projects. The first project I started working on is titled "Religion and Foreign Policy in the U.S. Congress: Examining the Debate over the Iran Nuclear Deal." This project is in collaboration with Dr. Nicole Mathew and Dr. Peter Trumbore analyzing speeches through coding of themes and words from the United States Congress debating the Iran Nuclear Deal. This is still a work in progress but has received the Oakland University Provost Undergraduate Research Grant that is awarded to a student who has an interest in carrying out research and is awarded based on the academic strengths of the student applicant, quality of the proposal, the merit of the learning goals, and the recommendation of the mentor. My next project is an independent project titled "'Not in a Thousand Years:' Rhodesia in International Society." This manuscript is still a work in progress that focuses on economic analysis of trade in Rhodesia under a white minority government. So far this project has been presented at the Pi Sigma Alpha Conference in Washington D.C. in February 2019 and the Oakland University Research Symposium in April 2019 and will also be presented at the International Students Association Midwest Conference in St. Louis Missouri in November 2019. This manuscript has also received a grant from the Oakland University Honors College Undergraduate Research Fund. My latest research, titled "Truth and Reconciliation Committees in Africa: A Comparative Analysis," is co-authored with Dr. Paul Kubicek and concentrates on analyzing if truth commissions are successful in promoting human rights and stabilizing transitional governments based on human rights records and polity scores. This research will be presented at the Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa in Washington D.C. in November 2019, and also received a grant from the same organization. -
