First elected in 2011, Christine has been hailed by several media outlets as one of the NDP’s “best new recruits” in Ottawa. She’s determined to continue getting results for the people of Abitibi—Témiscamingue.Currently NDP's critic for Rural Affairs and for Economic Development Canada for Quebec Regions, Christine has served as the Official Opposition’s deputy Health critic, National Defence critic, deputy National Defence critic, and as deputy Energy and Natural Resources critic.As MP, Christine has fought against the Conservatives’ reckless reforms to the Navigable Waters Protection Act, Employment Insurance, home mail delivery and the tax credit for labour-sponsored funds. She’s also been an ardent defender of family farms and local businesses in Parliament.As deputy Energy and Natural Resources critic, Christine tabled Motion M-518 for a national strategy on Canada’s forestry sector. She also sponsored two bills aimed at raising awareness in Parliament about the challenges facing rural regions with regards to fire safety and recruitment. Christine is the first elected official to maintain offices in Rouyn-Noranda, Ville-Marie, Amos and La Sarre, and to offer regular services in Témiscaming and Barraute. She is in constant contact with her constituents–organizingmeetings and attending the majority of locally organized events.Christine was born and raised in La Reine and bought a rural property in the municipality of Dupuy in 2006, where she now lives with her husband. She is a former member of the Canadian Armed Forces and holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Before she was elected to Parliament, she worked as a nurse at the CSSS des Aurores-Boréales, where she still periodically offers her services.
