I was responsible for the day-to-day running of the charitable website, bestCourse4me, which shows prospective Higher Education students from low-earning families the link between what and where people study and their employment record afterwards. In this role my key responsibilities included building relationships with government departments, universities and their representative bodies, schools and many other organisations in the sector; devising and running the marketing and public relation strategies and identifying and pursuing new funding streams; and managing a six-figure budget and a number of free-lance contractors.

I developed the major gifts fundraising programme for the UK alumni of the New Zealand-based university. Until my appointment, minimal work had been done to identify and cultivate their high-level prospects. In my time in post I increased the prospect pool to 5x its original size, and made over 200 face-to-face visits. I also worked closely with the Board of Trustees and high-level members of the university to develop compelling fundraising projects and plan cultivation events.

By the time of my departure, income had increased by 60%.My fundraising achievements included securing grants from charitable trusts up to £100,000; developing five membership schemes and implementing a major membership recruitment campaign; and soliciting gifts form wealthy individuals up to the £25,000 level. I was also in charge of Liberty’s training courses and publication sales. As a member of the management team, I was involved in all planning processes, including performing in-depth assessments of all areas of responsibility and implementing significant improvements. I managed 70% of the organisation’s expenditure budget and ten staff members.

I was solely responsible for designing and implementing a £5 million fundraising campaign. In the first year, I increased donations from £40,000 to £1.2 million. I raised over £2.5 million in two years.My specific achievements include soliciting face-to-face gifts from individuals and companies up to £100,000; securing grants from charitable trusts up to £250,000; securing £650,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund; implemented all phases of a direct marketing programme for twenty thousand Fellows, including direct mail and telephone fundraising; and planned a major event at St James’ Palace and other events.

Greater New York City Area

As Director of Annual Giving, I was solely responsible for designing and implementing Oxford University’s first annual giving programme in North America. In less than a year in post, I raised $500,000 in its start up phase, using alumni volunteers to run telephone campaigns and through direct mail programs.As Director of the US Regional Campaign, I was responsible for raising approximately $750,000 per year. I did this by setting up, training and managing volunteer alumni fundraising committees in cities throughout the US. I solicited face-to-face gifts in the $5000 to $100,000 range and managed seventy high-level volunteers on the committees.
