As a Water Resources Engineer with Coastal Resources, I had the pleasure of working for many years on the Intercounty Connector (ICC) Project for the Maryland State Highway Administration in Montgomery County and Prince George's County in Maryland. I performed and oversaw detailed geomorphic data collection and analyses; performed stormwater sampling and water quality computations; evaluated stormwater management systems for stream channel protection effectiveness; performed hydrologic and hydraulic analyses (GISHydro, TR-55, TR-20, HEC-RAS); and wrote technical reports.

As a Water Resources Engineer at RK&K, I spent most of my time contributing to the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project - performing project planning, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation, wetland and stream mitigation site searches, traffic noise modeling, and preliminary noise barrier design. I'm proud to see one of the noise barriers I helped design still standing strong today at the US Route 1/I-495 interchange in Alexandria, VA. I also assisted with environmental permitting and public involvement activities and was responsible for maintaining professional relationships with representatives from numerous clients and natural resource agencies. For the Delaware Department of Transportation, I used the Water-Surface PROfile (WSPRO) model to compute water surface profiles and analyze stream hydraulics through many of their existing bridge structures. I evaluated discharges, shear stresses, and stream power and recommended appropriate bridge scour countermeasures to protect the bridges from damage and to increase public safety.

My first job after college and the beginning of my journey to improve water quality in Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay. At MDE, I worked as a watershed modeler responsible for calculating Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for impaired watersheds throughout Maryland. I developed, calibrated, and analyzed Hydrological Simulation Program-FORTRAN (HSPF) watershed models and TR-55 and TR 20 hydrologic models. I also developed input data for the models by performing detailed GIS analyses of land use and soils, surveying stream channel dimensions, sampling channel and streambank materials, and measuring stream discharge. A wonderful experience and introduction into the world of watershed modeling!
