As a summer research intern at Feinstein Institute for Medical Research I had the opportunity to work in Dr. Betty Diamond's lab investigating the autoimmune disease, Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). I worked specifically on a neuroscience related project in which I worked to identify the mechanism through which auto-antibodies are able to cross the blood brain barrier in the neuropsychiatric manifestation of the disease, using a mouse model. I was able to utilize by background neuroscience knowledge and also gained many important laboratory skills are crucial as I continue to engage in neuroscience medical research.

While studying abroad as an exchange student at UPAEP in Puebla, Mexico, I joined the university's varsity basketball team. This was an incredible opportunity to use my previous experience in basketball to get acquainted with the university, make meaningful connections with Mexican student athletes, and stay in shape.

During my semester abroad in Puebla, Mexico, I joined Dr. Zaida Nelly Juarez's Plant Chemistry and Technology lab. As a researcher I assisted graduate students with analysis of medical applicability of various plants using rotary evaporation, toxicity assays of brine shrimp, and antioxidant assays. I also completed individual project analyzing the toxicity and antioxidant activity of two plants and presented findings to the rest of the lab members.Upon returning to Notre Dame, I presented my work in a poster at the College of Science Joint Annual Meeting.
