Current• Advanced strategic objectives by promoting evidence-based decision-making. • Managed and envisioned policy-related projects and initiatives. • Engaged with key stakeholders and provided impartial, actionable advice. • Led an expanding directorate, strategic planning, and leadership.Key achievements include:• Operationalised the Rapid Research Information Forum: implemented a novel science policy advice mechanism to the Australian Government during the COVID-19 pandemic.• Team Expansion and Leadership: Grew the science-policy team from 3.5 to 10.8 FTE, cultivating an inclusive, safe, and collaborative work environment.• Policy Reform Advocacy: Championed major policy reforms, including a strategic review of the R&D system, securing the independence of the Australian Research Council, and achieving comprehensive fundamental research exemptions in defence export laws.• Science Policy Advice: Produced critical, independent reports on climate change risks to Australia and data-intensive research; independent science-policy roundtables on diverse topics such as mRNA technology, climate change, world heritage, greenhouse gas removal, the future of supercomputing, and nuclear science capacity; advice to government on key issues including the Great Barrier Reef, COVID-19 responses, research policy, carbon offsets, and the scientific use of data.• Strategic Planning: Developed and executed a strategic plan for the 2022 Federal Election, influencing the incoming government and helping to secure a grant for the International Science Council Asia Pacific Regional Focal Point.• Strategic Transformation Leadership: Led a strategic transformation of the policy approach, enhancing the Academy’s advisory and knowledge brokerage roles with the government.
