A charitable, non-profit, humanitarian organisation teaching first aid to the community, delivering the State’s ambulance service while also shaping and leading the sector nationally. This amazing achievement is due to the many dedicated and committed groups of people that make St John so successful. The service employs more than 1300 paid staff including paramedics, communication officers, patient transport officers, administrative staff and first aid trainers. However, the delivery of these services would not be possible if not for the support of more than 4300 volunteers who donate more than three million hours to the community every year under the St John banner. From running the ambulance service to teaching first aid in hundreds of locations around regional WA - each and every one of the staff and volunteers gives an invaluable service to the community. Responsibilities:Respond to emergency calls, assess patient's condition and make critical care decisions quickly.Interact effectively as part of the ambulance crew, with other ambulance personnel and other emergency services to ensure the delivery of patient centered care is optimised.Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, health professionals, and members of the public and other emergency services to ensure the best possible care for the patient.Collect pertinent patient care data and communicate this to hospital staff. Complete paperwork (patient care records) and other reports as necessary and with a high level of care and accuracy.Maintaining a continuous inventory of medical supplies on the response vehicle and replacing stock when required.Achievements:I have learnt important clinical skills on the job including using nebulisers, inhalers, assisted breathing devices (CPAP & BIPAP), gastronomy feeds (bolus, gravity and pump feeds), suppositories and enemas, and administering various liquid, topical oral, sublingual medications.
