I was a GCSE maths resit lecturer with a passion for helping students boost their confidence and attitude towards maths. I was highly innovative and used cognitive load theory to plan and deliver lessons to all ranges of ability. I focused on delivering lessons away from the whiteboard, using my tablet. This approach was hugely popular with learners and may form the basis of a future research project.I also taught adult learners GCSE maths and had a wealth of experience in helping students of all ages and abilities to achieve their full potential. This involved providing additional support to students, helping them to understand complex concepts, and giving them practice with problem-solving skills.Did an after school duty every day helping students cross a busy road outside the school. I was an academic mathematics coach for years 7 to 11. I worked mainly with small groups in intervention sessions, helping them to understand and master mathematical concepts. I identified students who needed extra support and created and delivered sessions tailored to their needs. I also helped out in mathematics classes, acting as a mathematics specific teaching assistant. This helped me to build relationships with students and to better understand their individual learning needs.One of the most rewarding aspects of my job was working with small groups of students in intervention sessions. I enjoyed getting to know the students and understanding their individual learning needs. I also enjoyed being able to tailor my teaching to their specific needs. I found that this was the most effective way to help students to make progress.I also enjoyed helping out in mathematics classes. I found it rewarding to be able to support students and answer their questions. I also enjoyed working with the teacher to plan and deliver lessons. This gave me a valuable opportunity to see how different teachers taught mathematics and to learn new teaching techniques.In addition to my main job role, I also taught a year 11 class for a few months as a member of staff left. This was a really good experience as I already worked with most of the class in interventions. I found that it was helpful to have a prior relationship with the students. This made it easier to build rapport and to create a positive learning environment.I also taught a few A Level classes in the subjects of Decision and Statistics. This was very rewarding as the small groups made good progress. I found that the students were motivated and eager to learn. I enjoyed being able to challenge them and to help them to develop their mathematical skills.Overall, I enjoyed working as an academic mathematics coach. I found it to be a rewarding and challenging experience.
