As an on-call firefighter with Larimer County, I assist the county fire resources with suppressing wildfires within the county and local area. I also help out on fuels reduction projects with the intent of creating fire breaks in the landscape and reducing the potential for large fire growth within the county’s open spaces.We train together several times a year to maintain our firefighter credentials and enhance our skills.

Greater Fort Collins Area

As a forestry business we primarily conduct expert tree trimming, removals, stump grinding, cable/bracing of weak limbs, tree pest treatments, tree health & risk assessments within the municipalities and the forest along the northern front range of Colorado. We also conduct fire mitigation, wildfire hazard assessments and hazard tree removals in the forest along with firewood delivery and sales in the Northern Colorado area.My personal certifications include ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) Certified Arborist and ISA Certified Tree Climber and the business is licensed with the cities of Fort Collins, Loveland and Greeley to conduct tree trimming and removals. This work is often highly technical involving use of ropes and pulleys to climb into trees for the purposes of pruning and tree removal. We often use ropes to rig branches so they can be lowered safely and in a controlled manner. This deicing business specialized in producing, providing and shipping superior solid airfield deicer products to airlines, airports and transportation facilities around the United States and Canada.As the facilities manager, I worked to keep the warehouse, office facilities and grounds up and running and spent months working to restore the headquarters warehouse facility after it was purchased from a large corporation that had let it fall into disrepair after 30 years of minimal maintenance. While, facilities management and repair was one part of my job, managing the warehouse operations including stocking and inventory, local delivery and shipping to the Rocky Mountain Area was another substantial part of my duties. Due to the critical nature of the transportation industry, it was necessary to process orders and ship deicer to our customers within a 24 hour period and sometimes that day, depending on the criticalness of the order.In addition to my work as the manager of facilities, I also conducted much of the research and development involving new and varied blends of deicer. This work started in the lab on a small scale and after initial testing, progressed to the creation of blended pellets and ultimately to onsite testing in a full sized facility. Part of the testing work included testing corrosion inhibitors and binders to allow the salt pellets to perform more quickly and efficiently. My duties included but were not limited to: supervising employees, fork lift training and operations, pellet mill/mixer/screener operation, research and development involving salt varieties and variations, vehicle repair and maintenance, small machine repair and maintenance, network installation, building and roofing repairs, appliance installation, landscape and sprinkler repairs, lawn and tree care, asphalt/concrete parking lot repairs and maintenance, firewood management, snow removal, fence building and repairs, tile and drywall repairs, logistics and delivery.

Rawlins, Wyoming

Managed two field crews conducting fuels mitigation work, fire suppression, prescribed fire implementation and preparation on the High Desert District in southern Wyoming. The job entailed both managing the field aspects and performance as well as being responsible for all administrative aspects of the crews.In addition to these primary on district duties, I led a 20 person fire crew for 2+ weeks while suppressing fires in WY, CO and NV. I was also responsible for managing a team of professional fallers in Western Oregon with the mission of reducing the dangers of fire weakened trees from falling on roads within the Umpqua National Forest.

Grand Junction, Colorado Area

- Initially assigned to Boise Smokejumper rookie program, released towards end of second week and obtained a summer detail with Unaweep Wildland Fire Module located in Grand Junction, CO.- Worked temporarily at the National Incident Command Center (NICC), using the programs of ROSS, BISON, WildCAD and Excel to review and process incoming orders from the regional GACCs for crews and overhead.- Easily integrated with Unaweep Wildland Fire Module on a detail to assist the module and conducted 5 prescribed burns, suppressed 5 wildfires, managed 6 separate wildfires and worked to reduce hazardous fuels on several projects in Colorado and Nevada for 5 1/2 months beginning in May. - Utilized my fire and leadership experience throughout the season to aid and help guide personnel on and outside the module in participating in over 20 firing operations, numerous mapping/scouting missions, several helicopter resupply missions and many hazard tree felling operations.- Assisted Unaweep WFM when filling in as a crew boss in order to support training of module personnel and successfully led the management of a fire as a ICT4(t) for 12 days, leading to the completion of my ICT4 taskbook.- Taught and mentored module personnel, other detailers and other agency firefighters to improve their firefighting, leadership, tree felling, navigation, observation, and firing operation skills.

Worked on the Canyon Lakes Ranger District as an Assistant Engine Captain responsible for responding to new fires within our North Zone response area. My work also included running a type 2 hand crew as the crew boss on several fires out of our area for fire suppression. I also managed an engine on a severity detail in Oregon for 2 weeks where we responded to several wildfires.

My job consisted of being assigned to Roosevelt IHC, an elite 20 person wildland firefighting Hotshot crew. As a national fire suppression resource we were dispatched to both large and small fires throughout the nation primarily as a suppression resource but occasionally as a management resource as well. This job consisted of working in some of the most extreme fire environments throughout the west.My position on the crew varied from year to year but it consisted of fire line construction, hazard tree felling, emergency and controlled firing operations, directing helicopter bucket and sling load operations, fleet management for the crew, teaching classes, technical driving and days and days of back breaking physical labor.

Worked on a 4 person US Forest Service Fuels Mitigation and Fire crew out of the Grand Junction BLM Field Office. My duties consisted of:- Conducting Chainsaw fuels reduction treatments on the Forest Service and BLM lands around Grand Junction in the timber and brush.- Collecting and analyzing fuel moisture samples from around the area to track the local fire indicies.- Responding to and working to suppress local initial attack wildfires- Working as a sawyer and squad boss on several 20-person Type 2 Fire Crews on out of area assignments- Teaching, training and mentoring new sawyers and firefighters on the crew and district.- Engaging and participating in prescribed fire preparation and implementation.

Longmont, Co

Led an army platoon of soldiers during different missions during my 8 years in the National Guard. The work included but was not limited to deployment to New Orleans for disaster relief in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina, work as a fire support officer for the 5th/19th Special Forces BN, deployment to Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and numerous training assignments within the US for artillery and fire support missions. Was a member is the COARNG marksmanship team and represented the state at numerous competitions within the US.

Led a platoon of soldiers with the 2/157 FA BN on a year long deployment initially to mobilization training at Fort Hood TX and then on to Ramadi Iraq in support on Operation Iraqi Freedom.The mission consisted of providing 3 squads to serve as protective services details to support the regional provincial reconstruction teams in their effort to rebuild the country of Iraq after years of war and violence. Additional duties included, company movement officer, safety officer, and additional duties of serving as company executive officer and company Commander as required.

Worked on a Wildland Fire analysis crew where I was hired to take samples of historic fire scars from trees in the area for historical tracking. The 2002 summer in Colorado was a historically bad fire year that found us conducting many other tasks and assignments in support of the overall wildfire fire suppression effort. Duties consisted of the following:- Sampling and collecting fire scars from trees all over the San Juan National Forest- Responding to and suppressing initial attack wildfires- Working with the Durango and Silverton Railroad to aid in fire suppression- Conducting fuels mitigation work and tree felling operations- Working directly with the Burned Area Rehabilitation Team (BAER) to collection on the ground data to compare with satellite imagery and computer generated assessments in burned area severity- Conducted Fire prevention work and made contacts with the public to inform them on local fire restrictions and closures.
