Lieutenant

Under the direction of a Fire Captain, supervise the activities of a Fire Company on an assigned shift; supervise, train and evaluate staff involved in fire suppression, EMS, prevention and other related activities in emergency and routine situations. A Fire Lieutenant may also be assigned to the Fire Prevention Bureau, Fire Communications Center, as a Safety Lieutenant, or to the Fire Training Division. Fire Lieutenants with current Pierce County Paramedic Certification may be assigned to a Medic Company. Assignments in the Fire Prevention Bureau will be as a Fire Inspector, reporting to a Deputy Fire Marshal, and performing duties such as fire inspections, fire investigations, public education and other prevention activities. Assignments in the Fire Communications Center will be as a Dispatcher performing fire and EMS dispatching, supervision, training and other related duties. Assignment to the Fire Training Division will include lesson plan development and delivery, recruit training, and other related duties. Assignment as a Safety Lieutenant includes Incident Safety Officer (ISO) and accountability duties at emergency incidents, office duties related to daily staffing, and providing support for the on duty Battalion Chief through other related duties.
