The Mandrake Hotel is a boutique hotel in Fitzrovia with 34 rooms, a destination bar called Waeska, and a great South American fusion restaurant called Yopo. The hotel is like no other place I've worked, the style and design leaves people speechless when they arrive. Managing the Safety & Security and also Maintenance Administrator since January 2020 has been very rewarding. The events and parties that have been hosted have been incredible and take a lot of planning and many security and safety considerations need to be actioned also working with artistic producers, and working closely with the F&B outlets to make sure it goes smoothly. I directly manage a team of ten consisting of 6 Security Officers, 2 Door Managers, and 2 Engineers and in addition to this anything up to 10 Agency Officers. We have high profile guests and residents so discretion and confidentially is of the utmost importance. My role has changed over time and more responsibilities were given to me which I thrive on. I have been the sole contact between the hotel and council for all issues relating to refuse collection, noise complaints, alcohol licensing, extensions in licensing, and more. This has been great for my development and learning. During the Lockdown, I was entrusted by the owner to be the caretaker for the property until the lockdown lifted. I spent 4 months living in the hotel ensuring the building and its contents were safe and secure and keeping up with all the Engineering checks, Fire Safety checks, and controlling access to the various contractors who visited to keep up with their maintenance contracts. When it came time for reopening, I singlehandedly created and wrote all the Risk Assessments, Standard Operating Procedures, arranged and actioned all the necessary preventative measures in order to comply with the latest COVID guidelines released from the Government for the entire hotel. I have continued to update and adjust as and when required.

Security Manager

Aldwych London

The Waldorf Hilton London is an iconic 298 room hotel, with a grand event space called Palm Court and several large function and meeting rooms. It also boosted Good Godfreys a fantastic classical bar, which was very popular for pre and post-theatre drinks and food. Parrot Bar was also opened in my time there and was a hot spot for live music. My role took on another dimension while working there. My remit was very large and with a small team of two in-house Security Officers, it at times was a struggle to keep up with demands. I had my first solo Health and Safety Hilton Audit within 3 months of taking the position and scored very well despite the hotel being without a Safety and Security Manager for 3 months prior to my arrival. I thank the support I received from my Regional Safety Manager for guiding me through this chapter. The management of events was something I really was able to improve at The Waldorf. There were very large prestigious events and ceremonies held there and I was managing large teams of Agency Officers. There was an annual event whereby a company bought out the entire hotel for 3 days and used rooms for meetings. It was a great challenge to arrange and supervise the safety, security, and logistics of this event. The hotel was also a popular destination for diplomatic visits from various heads of states and government agencies. I again was able to link and utilise my knowledge, network, and knowhow to make sure that the hotel was sterile of any threat to the principle and further extend more links with London Metropolitan Police, whom I worked very closely with during my time at The Waldorf. Situated on the Strand it is a popular route for protests and marches and it was because of my connections within the Police and being a member of the Institute of Hotel Security Management that I was able to plan and strategise to protect my asset, The Waldorf, the staff and the guests.

Assistant Security & Risk Manager

Conrad London St James

During my second term at Conrad, which at the time was a franchised property, it was decided to go to a complete Hilton managed property. This meant a complete overhaul of all franchised policies, procedures, and safe systems of work. Having already done this at Bankside I relished the challenge and with the support and great working relationship with my Manager, we managed to turn it around in two months. We scored very high on our first official Health and Safety Hilton audit and set the record for this, which still stands to this day, I believe. I was then given the official title of Assistant Security & Risk Manager

Jan 2017 - Sep 2018

Security Lead Supervisor

I returned to Conrad when the opportunity of Team Leader became available. Reporting directly to Security & Risk Manager and being the direct report to the team of 8 Officers. My duties would be much the same as they were when I worked there as Officer with the addition of -Preparing and chairing the Health and Safety meetings monthly-Giving introduction training to new starters, covering all aspects of Safety & Security within the property-Presenting all the Fire Trainings in line with the Fire Safety regulations. - Attending morning meetings in the absence of Manager- Access Control (Staff, Contractors and Visitors) - Fire Patrols and reporting any violations of the Fire Risk Assessment- Cash Escorts- Float Counts- Investigations for theft, damage, anti-social behaviour within the property. - Utilizing all Security systems and interviewing witnesses- Assisting Royal and Diplomat Police Protection with VIP's - First Aid issues and First Aid box audits and replenishment- Creating and distributing ROTA for team- Dealing with challenging guests (Conflict Management) - Report writing- Delivery checking (Post and Produce)- Issuing and auditing of staff lockers- Issuing and auditing of staff key cards and internal master keys- Maintenance of guest room safe- Managing of guest lost property (High Value)

Security And Safety Team Leader

Bankside London

Hilton Bankside was an exciting new build, project, and opening. I reported directly to the Security & Safety Manager and was one of two Team Leaders. We were brought in during the build phase and were controlling access to more than 150 contractors per day and Supervising over 10 Security Officers who were tasked to patrol, bag search, and enforce standards of health & safety. The project progressed well and we got closer to an actual opening date, we then started implementing the many Hilton policies and procedures, liaising with the companies who were designing the various security systems of CCTV, Access Control, KeyWatcher, and Fire Alarm, which I was trained on how to use to a level where I could give User tutorial to others.Hilton Bankside also had a gym and pool. I already held an NPLQ Lifeguard Certificate so naturally became responsible for pool safety, also working closely with the Engineering team to test water quality.Hilton Bankside has a massive event space and hosted some incredible events with up to 1000 people at times. All Security and Safety was dealt with in house. Myself and the Security Manager completed Risk Assessments, SOPs and SSOWs and enforced it on the night, with the help of Agency Officers.I spent a very successful and enjoyable year and three months at Bankside and the knowledge I gained from that opening was and continues to be invaluable.

Jul 2015 - Sep 2016

Security Officer

After spending a year as an Agent working in various locations in London I wanted something regular and fixed. I saw the vacancy for Security Officer and decided to apply. Conrad St James has 256 rooms and is a luxury property with, bar, restaurant, and afternoon room. All of which were very popular.I felt thoroughly involved in all operations within the hotel and its workings. Some of the duties included in the Officer position would be - Access Control - Fire Patrols and reporting any violations of the Fire Risk Assessment- Cash Escorts- Float Counts- Investigations for theft, damage, anti-social behaviour within the property.

Agency Security Officer

Freelance

I took a year off from my Surveillance Installer job to reconnect with my friends and family who I had neglected for several years travelling around the world for work. I started to get restless at home and decided to get SIA Licensed and work with a few companies at luxury and high end properties and events.I was posted at various locations and various industries-Oblix Shard-Bodega Negra-Download Music Festival-Ascot Racecourse on Races Day-Frieze Art FairThis gave me an early introduction to face to face customer service and also how best to manage potentially risky, dangerous and threatening situations.

Senior Installer/Surveillance Operative

Freelance / Contractor

Worldwide

Working seven years constantly and a further two sporadically in Surveillance, Access Control and CCTV system installation. The position of Senior Installer and Operative meant i was leading a small British team installing and maintaining a sophisticated system designed specifically for purpose.I was involved with every step of the process with the design, product selection, shipping, installing, commissioning, maintaining and training of the various systems. Choosing and training local workers to carry on the duties when our team left site was particularly rewarding. Contracts lasted anything from one month to two years and nearly all were places I revisited several times to asses the efficiency of the system and the team. Revisits would almost always lead to system expansion and upgrading for new technologies.
