I am a member of the School for In Service Training and Development (SISTAD) at William Booth College, responsible for the training and development of staff in 18 Lifehouses (residential homeless centers) and drop-in centers in the London and Central Regions of The Salvation Army Homelessness Services. I also act in a consultative capacity to the regional management and the senior management team of Homelessness Services for the United Kingdom and Ireland Territory. Further I am responsible for leading or assisting on delivering courses from the central course list for staff, Officers and volunteers from both Social Services and the wider Salvation Army. In addition to this I am responsible for developing and delivering local or regional training to meet identified needs or for sourcing external training.

I have two main roles in my position; being part of the general management team of the centre, and creating, developing and implementing internal program and projects. This means that I line manage a selection of staff members, run case reviews and organise internal audits. I also organise staff training and support the centre manager with the budget and any other general management duties required. My main role is as Skills Developer which means I am responsible for the program within the centre and for building up relationships with external investors, stakeholders and our mission partners. I am also responsible for fund raising. My task for the next year is to create a new lifeskills programme, develop our own internal weekday program and work towards gaining accreditation for our centre as a teaching centre.

I have recently been accepted for the new post of Support Worker which I will take up on the 1st of September. I will work a caseload of young men and women between 16 and 21. I currenlty key-work eight people. As a Support Worker I am responsible for managing their support and development needs including preparing and writing risk and need assessments and constructing and running a support plan. I offer support to my clients in finding work or education, in navigating the benefits system and in securing their own accomadation. I also assisst in mediating with family members, workers from other agencies and provide supporting documents as required. I have recently written a 'how-to' guide on support paperwork including methodologies and best practice for making risk and needs assessments and writing support plans. I have been asked to set-up and co-ordinate a literacy training programme and am part of the team assembled to review and update the spiritual programme of the centre. As a senior worker I a, also resonsible for training and mentoring junior members of staff and for delegating and assinging duties to the team of assisstant support workers. I manage shifts as a duty worker and have responsibility for the running of the centre when on duty.

I manage a case load of young men and women between 16 - 22 supporting them in their transition from being homeless to re-intergrating into society through a process of risk and needs assesments before creating a personalised support plan and then guiding them through it. I provide support in claiming benefits, finidng employment or education and I provide training in everyday life skills alongside literacy and numeracy. Most of the people I work with have some form of drug addiction or mental health issues and all of them come with significant emotional problems.

I supported a case load of men from the age of 18+ who were in recovery from addicition and were homeless. It required inter-agency work with rehabilitation agencies and support groups and with local government, probabation etc. Through a process of risk and needs assesments I created personalised support plans focused on maintaining their recovery, coping with their addiction, and on resettling back into the community through finding employment and housing.

I was the centre chaplain for a hostel of 175+ men, teh majority of whom were ex-service men or were in the merchant navy. I offered pastoral care, mediation with family members and support when in hospital. I was responsible for weekly services, organising special events such as the Christmas carol service and as support to the welfare staff. I further worked alongside the management team as an advisor on the daily running of the centre and presented recomendations and advice to the board of directors on religious, social and spiritual issues as required. As part of my role I would visit Tilbury port alongside the Port Chaplain to provide a link to the welfare work taking place in the port to the merchant ships.
