I worked specifically with Abatacept (Orencia), which is a biologic drug used in the treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis. During my internship I conducted literature reviews on Pediatric Lupus Nephritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Psoriasis. I conducted research on national registries that compile cases of each of these diseases. The purpose of this was to examine the rates of adverse drug events among the cohorts of patients receiving treatment. Additionally, I had the opportunity to draft a Pediatric Investigation Plan (PIP). A requirement in the pediatric drug approval process of the European Medicines Agency. The goal of a PIP is to present that there is a significant health problem prevalent among a pediatric population that warrants approval of treatment.
